Greetings! ... First of all a shout out to Duffey for getting the thread going last week while I was on vacation ... We had a great time and I’m already back to the grind ... I have really started watching what I eat ... lots of salads, fruits and good old vegetable soups ... that coupled with swimming everyday has resulted in a drop of four pounds this week ... I know I will not continue to drop this much every week but it’s good to get a jump start on this year’s goal .... I still am shooting for a pound a week ( Bonnie’s Advice ) ...

So, how did your week go? ... It seems from last weeks thread that everyone is getting and staying on track ... Keep moving!!!

2013 Starting Weight: 231
Last Week: 231
This Week: 227

Side Bar: As always we welcome anyone who would like to join us. We are a group who has come to call each other friends. We jest and joke, laugh and cry and are always here for each other. Never mean spirited and always understanding in the ups and downs of weight loss ... we strive for better health. Come join the fun, we would love to have you!!!

Good going, Mr. Chimp!

Although it is only Thursday, Superbob will go ahead and do his weekly post. He's been keeping pretty close track.

Starting weight: 265

Weight this morning: 262.3

Loss for the week and so far in 2013: 2.7 pounds.

In one sense, my goal of seeing the 250s for the first time in decades is in sight. But actually the deal is to be in them, and stay in them, so even if I nudge below 260 within the next few weeks, the challenge will be to get into the mid-250s (at least) as a new norm. Then I can set a new goal and seek a still lower norm.

We seem not to be doing this as a "race" to any particular date or occasion (such as Saint Paddy's Day), which would be okay with me. That gadget may have gotten a bit shop-worn. We seem to be refreshed with motivated newcomers here (hooray!) so maybe we don't need "races" right now. If the consensus is to make it a race, however, Superbob is up for that challenge, too.

Edit for postscript: my cartilage-free left knee gave me some pain while I was trying to sleep last night. That may be sign that the time to screw up my courage and have a knee replacement is getting near. Or I could try another round of rooster-comb injections from the ortho, but I think they helped only marginally and temporarily a year ago. No matter what, whether with my original knee or a bionic one, I intend to continue walking and stay in the perpetual quest of fitness.

Good luck to all in our merry band of Throwdowners!!!

Bob ... way to go!!! ... I am ok with race or no race ... maybe when you hit the 250's you can go back to the plus or minus 3's again ... just a thought ... keep up the good work:thumbup:

Duffey, ... we will be waiting with baited breath :biggrin2:

Cooker's Throwdown Friday ... 1-11-13

I weigh in at weight watcher's on Thursdays...154.2, down from 156.6 last week. Loss of 2.4!! I think it's the first loss in MONTHS! Walking at least 1 mile before work and avoiding fast food...seems to be working well :). Good luck to all! Keep at it!

Great job!!! Keep up the walking and better eating:thumbup:

Wow - we have some real successes to celebrate here!

My own is much more modest. I started the year (last week) at 164.6, and as of this morning, I'm at 164.2. Not much of a change, and I really don't see it as significant. My weight ordinarily varies by as much as a pound or two just due to dietary sodium and fluid retention. So, I'm viewing this as maintaining my weight. I'll feel that I've lost weight when I see a difference of over a pound and that the difference stays that way. Not that I'm complaining. Just the opposite. As long as I'm not gaining, I'm OK. I just want to get down into the 150's before my daughter's wedding this coming May. As Heathcliff the cartoon cat used to say, "I'm not over-weight. I'm under-tall."

Congrats friends on this week's successes and successes yet to be reported!

Here's our reports this week:

CINDY:

Starting Weight: 157.8
This Week: 158
Difference: +.5

She didn't get to walk on the treadmill much this week. That's her story and she's sticking to it. Actually she has eaten pretty well this week, I am a witness. Just a tiny speed bump in the road to healthy weight.

WISE:

Starting Weight: 194.5
This Week: 190.3
Difference: -4.2

I have eaten healthily this week, with the exception of a wine tasting, a burrito from Qdoba and a burger from Mimi's. One thing that has helped me is canned DelMonte peaches of all things. I don't like fresh peaches, but canned is better than nothing. I ate them as a snack or as a dessert, which helped me stay focussed positively. I'm burned out on apples. I do want to eventually graduate to all fresh fruit and vegetables, but baby steps count.

Also I believe that my thyroid med increase has helped me to be able to start losing again. In recent months I was on an upward swing in which I seemed powerless to conquer. Onward ad downward!

Oh, I like the Heathcliff quote. I will summarize my yearly goal as being shooting to be extremely less under tall by the end of the year.

Also, SB best wishes with the knee however you deal with it! Oh, and I again had an auto correct experience SB related. I was trying to comment on a photo on another site with the word "superb" and Superbob was inserted for me. I should have left it alone to see what reaction I would get!

Congrats to all who've posted and to those who have yet to post.:smile2:

I stayed the same for the week. 151 last week; 151 this week. I guess no one told my scales we had finished the holiday maintenance competition and moved on to the "grow taller" phase.:tongue2:

Maybe Next week!

Wow -- look at the Kentucky Flash's stats! He's just like his basketball team -- sends off a bunch of elite players to even more elite climes, and then just reloads with new elite players. :tongue2: Congrats, Flash.

Oh and surely you know by now, Superbob is everywhere. :D

Thanks SB. I feel like my head is on straight again. i do have a couple of events to deal with, one last night (pizza, veggie, only two slices) and a surprise 80th birthday party for a good friend complete with furnished nice dinner. Then, I will br happy to resume my new normal. Alas, I do wish this year's UK team was as omnipotent as is SB! Sometimes sports teams are as unpredictable as the weather. Anyway, being an Indiana native I can also root for IU and Notre Dame. I would love to see Brad Davis and Butler do really well again. Maybe Tennessee will volunteer to have a great year?

This is the time of year gyms are packed, and the media are filled with stories of people trying to keep their New Year's resolutions by losing excess weight. Good luck to all those of resolve. But dear friends of the Throwdown, we struggle but we keep at this from year to year, steady as she goes, no matter the time of year. I think we ought to give ourselves a round of applause, or maybe a group hug.

I claim Tiger!

Hugs all around!

Doing well this week. Not quite back down to Friday's weight, but I'll get there. Shooting to at least be under 190 by Friday morning!

DIL and granddaughter just complimented me on how "skinny" (relatively speaking, I'm sure) I look. My slacks are starting to get a little loose. I don't mind clothes shopping when it's to come down a size. :D

Depending upon what day of the week it is, I've dropped several pounds since 1-1. Of course, having some weird virus that made me achey, tired, and nauseous for several days did NOT hurt the weight loss efforts. It did, however muck up my INR!

I'm back to eating my broccoli, and trying to get some work done at the office. We're all burnt out, but the work we put off, and the clean up from year end, goes on!

This week has sucked for TheChimp ... I'm swimming but also eating everything in sight ... I can tell my weight is up by my clothes ... no way I'm getting on scales before I have to....:mad2:
