I have gone thru 2 AVR's and have never waited 4 hours to see my surgeon or cardiologist! At Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, I had a dacron graft placed along with porcine in '89. When I needed that valve replaced, the surgeon just cut thru the dacron , replaced the valve with mechanical and then sewed the dacron incision back together. He said the aorta grows around it in time. I watched it on my video he did for me of my surgery.
If I had a surgeon come in and not know why I was there, I would find a new surgeon post haste! Get a 2nd opinion from a quality surgeon who knows his stuff and has done many AVR's and redos, as mine has.
BTW, my aorta was at 6cm when discovered and it fell apart in the surgeon's hands. I was a walking time bomb.
Good Luck,
Gail
