I have gone thru 2 AVR's and have never waited 4 hours to see my surgeon or cardiologist! At Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, I had a dacron graft placed along with porcine in '89. When I needed that valve replaced, the surgeon just cut thru the dacron , replaced the valve with mechanical and then sewed the dacron incision back together. He said the aorta grows around it in time. I watched it on my video he did for me of my surgery.
If I had a surgeon come in and not know why I was there, I would find a new surgeon post haste! Get a 2nd opinion from a quality surgeon who knows his stuff and has done many AVR's and redos, as mine has.
BTW, my aorta was at 6cm when discovered and it fell apart in the surgeon's hands. I was a walking time bomb.
Good Luck,
Gail

yeah

yeah

Hence the "confusion has set in" at the beginning of the post.
I met with the surgeon 2 days after full chest x-ray ct scan and blood testing "post op"? I thought I was meeting him to discuss what type of valve was being installed. The surgeon was in surgery when my wife and I arrived, maybe it went bad and thats why we had to wait. He said that my surgery
could wait or he could do it now.
When I was catherized by my cardiologist at CC he said that he talked to the surgeon and they thought the operation was needed. When I then saw the surgeon I'm sure he must of known why I was there - maybe in a bad mood. I did have the surgury rescheduald foe Feb 7th. The surgeons name is Dr. Smedira and he is suppose to be one of the best, So i'll stick with him - but it wasen't what I expected. I need my Aortic valve and acsending Aorta replaced. Another member sent me an E-mail showing that CC does homografts most of the time for this condition - low infection rate.
I have to be reschedualed again for another x-ray and blood test before the 7th and to talk to the cardiologist again.
- I have aetna insurance maybe it doesn't pay well.
