I'm up to riding 50km per day now on the bike. I did 3 hours last Saturday and intend to do 4 hours this Saturday.
Riding has accelerated the healing of my sternum no end. The first few times were a little brutal but the improvement was incredible.

Have to ride on the flat of course to keep my heart rate down.

I am confused. It sounds like you had a kind of surgery that did not involved sawing your sternum in half. Is that right? Because it's hard enough for people who have a slight sternum fracture to move around a week after injury. I can't imagine how anyone could ride a bike one week after open-heart surgery!

That's why I assume that your skeleton is intact and you're wondering how much stress your heart can take. Am I right?

I'm pretty sure I could have been back on the bike 1 week after surgery (I chose not to). I waited 2 1/2 weeks then rode the trainer indoors for a while then went out on the street after 4 weeks. Now 7 weeks post op I can only just feel the sternum when I sneeze really hard.

Glad to hear you have snapped right back! You are a WONDER! I would imagine that you are the new speedy recovery gold standard.

Keep us posted on your progress. Should we be looking for you on any televised bike races?
