Since it isn't all that often that 2 topics of interest for me come together ... in this case NASCAR & CHD ... I decided to share this article posted on www.catchfence.com/index1.html. You'll have to scroll down a bit to see the full article, but it's there.... I have met both the Mundt and Schweinberg families at the CHD Golf Outing held this past September 17 in Sandwich IL; Cathy Schweinberg created my CHD Quilt block. Related websites for the CHD Quilt Project & the Kasey Kahne Foundation are listed in the article....

A portion of the article:
"The Kasey Kahne Foundation teamed up with Cathy Schweinberg and The CHD Awareness Quilt Project to give 6-year-old David Mundt a day to remember. David was born with a congenital heart defect and underwent open-heart surgery at 5 months of age. CHD's are among the most common birth defects and the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths. The Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Quilt Project, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public awareness of children born with chd's, provides emotional support to many heart families, donates AED's to local schools and encourages continued research in the field of congenital heart defects. The annual fundraiser for the Quilt Project, The Jason Schweinberg Memorial Classic was held on September 17, 2005."

It's great when you get to see the humanity behind the popular/famous person. That young boy had quite a day! Great story. I can see why you wanted to share it with us! Thanks, Cort.

He he he...Sherry, I'd forgotten your husband is a NASCAR fan. I believe we had that conversation once before, didn't we? ;)

And, Marguerite, yes, David had quite a day! I was surprised when I first heard about it at the Golf outing in September ... and even more surprised (in a good way, of course) when Cathy S sent me the link to the article the other day....

Should have known you'd post this...........

Should have known you'd post this...........

:D But so glad you did. Told Cathy ya did, too. Mmmm..........I'm telling! :D I'm sure she'll be thrilled. Many hugs. J.

*chuckles*

Janet ... believe I beat ya to it as I sent her an Email, too ;).

And, Terry, didn't realize you were a Kasey fan...he he eh.

My husband and I are both big Nascar fans. We watch every qualifying and race we can on tv. Truck,Busch, etc. Our ten year old granddaughter is a Dale Jr. fan. My husband took her to the race in Atlanta in Ocrober and he is taking her again in March. She should have no problem getting a boyfriend when shes old enough. She fishes, plays basketball and loves Nascar. Of course the boyfriend part comes after college.

LOL! AFTER college? Yeah right ;).

Sadly, I've lost interest in NASCAR over the years, partly because the cars the race now are not available to the general public, with the exception of the Dodge Charger. You can't buy a 2-door Taurus, nor can you buy a RWD Monte Carlo (course, imo, you haven't been able to buy a Monte Carlo brand new since 1988 ;)).

The First Gen MC Club of which I am a member has historical information on the website, which includes photos of NASCAR vehicles in the 1970s. And, the creater of the First Gen MC Club is putting together a repica of the 1972 "Coke Machine" Monte Carlo, driven by Davey Allison. I got to see the car in its "infancy" stages when I visited Kevin in S Carolina this past August during my road trip. These cars....at least through 1987/1988 were very much STOCK cars ... in that they raced them on Sunday and you could go to the dealership and buy the same car on Monday. You can't anymore.....

*shrugs*

Still...I like to watch the races when I can ;).
