Change of date

Just by a day so not that bothered, we now go in on the wednesday and surgery will be thursday the 17th.
Does anyone know if it is standered procedure to mention a pace maker with mitral valve repair, although the surgeon states the risk is very low, this wasn't mentioned to us when he had his first surgery.

Prior to my mitral valve replacement, surgeon hoped it possibly could be a repair but never mentioned anything about a pacemaker. Certainly I had the temporary pacing wires we all have but they were pulled.

We are all different with different needs. Did he explain to you why he thought a pacemaker might become necessary?

Well he didn't mention anything about a pace maker when we met him but received a letter from him about everything we had talked about. It says one thing i didn't mention at the time is that the electric wiring of the heart passes very close to where we have to operate, he also states it is very low risk, so maybe he feels that we just need to know? Like i said this wasn't mention with his first surgery, so was just curious. We have found out lately that Curts condition is rare, maybe that has something to do with it, i guess we will just have to wait and see. Thanks

Perhaps the surgeon mentioned the pacemaker -- just in case, so you wouldn't be surprised.

My very best positive wishes and prayers are going out to you and Curt. My son ended up with a pacemaker after surgery. It is a risk when they are in there cutting on the heart that they may interrupt the electrical pathways.
