Larry, did you go to the rehab at Hillcrest (Ok Heart Institute) and when did you start? I will be having my surgery there and heard about the rehab. Could I go there directly from the hospital? Can I stay there (in house facilities)?

Most Surgeons do not recommend starting Cardiac Rehabilitation until 6 weeks post-op.

Many of our members felt that rehab was a worthwhile experience which gave them confidence in learning to exercise safely to recondition their hearts and bodies following surgery, assuming that insurance will cover the cost.

Hi, Jamora, my surgery was at Oklahoma Heart next to Hillcrest. My surgeon, Dr James Spann, had me start Cardiac Rehab at 6 weeks just as Al mentioned. Rehab is at the gym in the "Bell Building" across the street from the hospital. Most likely, you will need a few weeks of recovery at home before beginning Cardiac Rehab. I'll send you a PM with my info in case you would like to talk more about it.

I asked my cardiologist about cardio rehab at week 5. I still have an irregular heartbeat with some afib, so he wants that better controlled before I start. Another week or two and I should be able to start.

My dr had me start cardiac rehab at 13 post surgery. Firts i thought it was due to my young age (49), but a lady recently started with me, post 13 days who is elderly. Both had surgery at methoidist hosp. Omaha ne.
