I don't know whether to scream, cry, or cheer. I went across the state for an ablation. Now most of you have said:

Amiodarone is a very toxic drug

Why would you have an ablation, when you only had yor valve replacement only 4 1/2 months ago?

Well, this doctor, who is considered one of the best electrophysiologists, said exactly the same thing as you did. He told me not to dare take any more amiodarone, calcelled the ablation, and put me on Multaq.

In about 5 months, he will send me a gizmo that I will wear for a week to check on the workings of my heart. I will see him again in six months.

I am furious at my cardiologist. I had suggested the same thing to him, which he nixed. As you all did, I wondered why I would need an ablation after only 3 instances of a-fib in the first few months after the procedure.

Right now my emotions are on a roller coaster.

Braveheart, even though I know you are frustrated, be glad that you first of all are off of Amiodarone and secondly you didn't have an ablation at this time. Your heart probably still has some healing to do and hopefully, when it gets through, you won't need either the drugs or an ablation. It does sound like it might be time to go looking for a new cardio.

Remember, it can take six months or more for the amiodorone to completely leave your body. You may continue to have some of the effects for a while, as it leaches out of you.

Best wishes,

Absolutely. I am so disgusted with my present cardio, to the point where I really thought that I was "heading for the last roundup".

There aren't too many good cardio groups in my area. I am going to have to look in a few towns away from me.

Yesterday, the doctor told me that it will be a long time before the symptoms abate, and maybe they won't go away 100%. I can live with that.

I am a bit calmer today, and since I am now on the southeast coast of Florida, I plan to do some sightseeing.

Well, my husband had been seeing a cardio from the same group as mine with whom I had been very impressed. This was the guy who had put in his pacemaker, and it was mentioned that once the pacemaker was stabilized, mt husband would go back to the original cardio (the same as mine).

Today we went to the pacemaker doc, and asked him if it was ok with him if we both went to him, rather than his partner. In fact, even though it was my husband's visit, he had no problem spending some time talking about my problem.

I feel so much more comfortable with this new guy.
