Hey Dave,
Went this morning and talked to the surgeon and I decided I am going to be risky and have a Ross Procedure with back up plan of a mechanical. Together we ruled out Homograft and Bovine - I'm too young (haven't heard that in a long time). Surgeon is really good though more than 100+ under his belt - I read many articles on him and his background - plus he spent a long time with me today wasn't going to let me leave until I felt comfortable. Now have to pick when (looks like early Oct.). Luckily I have no other problems but the valve - all else looks great and normal.
Thanks for asking and as soon as I digest this new stage I will be asking many ??????????????????????.
Thanks again.
Will be anxious to hear how these guys made out - with all this great support and prayers how could they be anything but great.
Thinking about you all the time
Susan

Bart's wife here:

All the prayers and good thoughts must have worked. Bart's surgery went very well and he is in pretty good spirits.

He got a new aortic mechanical (I forget the brand) valve, didn't need the aorta repair that was a possiblity, didn't need any blood and DID have a bicupid valve, contrary to the echo that looked like a tricuspid. We were very curious about this as our 7 year old son has a bicuspid aortic valve. We thought it very unusual that they would have different aortic valve issues.

Bart did have quite a bit of calcium that needed debraded away, but other than that all was expected. He is in CCU and has had his breathing tube removed. He is doing great and had dinner already - well if you call ice chips dinner. He was glad to have them though. His nurse has been very good to him too.

If his recovery goes as well as his surgery we will be very blessed indeed.

Thanks again for all the support and information here. It made a seemingly healthy 46 year old feel less like an oddity with needing a valve replacement.

Yeah!

Yeah!

Thanks for posting. So good to hear Bart is doing well. Thanks for letting us know.

I'm just thrilled to hear that Bart did so well. Take this opportunity to relax a little yourself. Congratulations to both of you.

Thanks so much for the great post Mrs. Bart. Please give him our best and tell him we are so happy to hear things are going well so far. Take good care of yourself as well and try to get some rest because this is hard on family members too. Many prayers are going up on Bart's behalf.

Hey Susan,
Glad to hear you have made your choice. Sounds like you have a very good surgeon also. Be sure to let us know when you have a date for your surgery.
Take Care

Dave

Bart's over the mountain so that's one sigh of relief and thanks for prayers answered. (Bart, hope the truck didn't hit you - and don't sneeze). Happy to know that you made it safely over the mountain to the good side. God bless

Glad to hear Bart's surgery went well! Thanks for posting the updates. We will keep him in our prayers that he continues to have a trouble-free recovery!
