To anyone following me on my web page, I apologize but my computer will not let me update my home page at the moment. It keeps saying something about my browser and Java.
Well, you know what I have to say about that .... "Yes, I have eye brows, and I do like my Java in the morning!"

Mark:mad:

Not that this has anything to do with it, though it may, but did you put the latest Microsoft Virtual Machine Critical Update on that computer? Seems like the update is causing problems for people and I just wondered.

Mark did the problem happen before that update?
Which operating system are you using?
Can you possible post or send me the exact error message that your page is giving you?

I'll try to find a work around, if indeed it is the update that is causing the problem. I'm using 98se and have updated with no problems so far, but I've heard others have had a tough time. I'll see what I can find.

Hi Ross,
I have windows XP. My browser is MSN Internet Explorer. The program I have to get into my (aol) home page is called Easy Designer. You go to your home page and click on edit, then Easy Designer opens up usually within 2 min. and you can go in your pages and make the changes. After I click on edit, I click on Easy Designer and a message pops up telling me I need to upgrade my browser; but my browser is already upgraded to the max that is out their. I even installed netscape, and got the same message. It also told me to check my Java settings, and they are set at low medium, which is fine. I read all of there help suggestions and applied each of them; and same thing? My wife pretty much did the same thing I did. Where baffled. The problem started BEFORE I attempted the critical upgrades. My browser would not take the upgrade, because I had a higher upgrade Internet Explorer browser anyway.
If by next week the problem is not worked out, I am thinking of calling AOL on my day off, and have them walk through the problem with me. You may have another idea. Ready for suggestions Ross. 12 hours into this problem now!

I'm still looking into the problem. You might want to go ahead and call AOL and have them go through it with you. There is one update that causes a problem just like your describing and I'll be darned if I can find the article and fix. Still looking. I don't think it's the VM update, though it's possible.

Recheck your java permissions, make sure JIT compiler is enabled and I'll keep digging. The other thing you might try is to run the Internet Explorer repair tool and see if it solves it then. If you don't know how to run the repair tool, see the links below.

See these 2 links for repair:

Hi Ross,
I did call AOL. They gave me the number to MSN tec. support. I tried to call them, but it is after hours and I'll have to wait till they open. She said with XP, AOL cannot help me, and I may have to reinstall my browser. I hope that dosen't mean I have to completely reinstall windows. Sometimes I wish I would have just stayed with Windows 98. Thanks for all your help Ross. I'll let you know what I find out. ... Mark:eek:

If you decide to use the repair tool, which is probably what the Microsoft tech is going to have you do, you'll need your XP installation CD. Those 2 links pretty much tell you everything you need to know to run the repair feature. I tell you this only because I'm afraid Microsoft will try to charge you for the support call. You may not have a choice, but more often then not, you do.

Let me know. ;)
