Hey all! I just wanted to drop in and update. I went to the surgeon and decided to get surgery on my BAV and 4.6 AAA sometime soon after the holidays in December. As a teacher, the winter break will give me some time to heal without worrying about missing too much work.
I have decided to blog about this journey and recovery. Please check it out and share with your friends! I posted my first post yesterday! Thanks for the support!

Cool! Good plan. I scheduled mine the same way. Surgery right after Thanksgiving and planned to return after the 3 week winter break. Exercise regularly between now and then. You want to go in strong. Did your surgeon or your doctor tell you to keep your HR < 150? I raced up until 4 weeks before my surgery date. And that was because I didn't want to mess up my plan/schedule due to a crash. I rode hard but solo right through the weekend before a Tuesday morning surgery. Cardiologists are conservative. My surgeon (Dr. V. Starnes, USC) suggested that I not change anything but avoid any valsalva maneuvers. I interpreted that as no closing any breaks, no sprinting, and pedal smoothly up hills. Nice Blog. I can't wait for the hospital and recovery entries.

My surgeon did tell me that. I have found that keeping my heart rate under 150 while cycling isnt that difficult. I just havent been attacking hills as hard as before. Rock climbing is different. I tend to push it. If I focus on my breathing, use good technique, and stay calm while climbing, I can keep my heart rate down. I think this experience might turn me into a better climber!!
