Good News....

Good News....

Well done Betty........

Keep up the speedy recovery, it's only six weeks to Chicago and we want to see you there.

Thanks, Children - it is so nice of you to keep us updated on your mother.

To help, bring supper so dad won't have to fix. When she's able, walk outside with her to keep her steady. Chats are good - but don't make them too long. She's not going to be very strong for awhile yet, but not to worry, she will be much better in a few weeks.

The cardioversion isn't bad. She might have a bit of a sunburned area, but it will subside quickly.

Tell her we said hi and are waiting to hear her voice right here soon.

God bless - Ann

I just talked with my Mom a few minutes ago and she is doing very well. She has been in sinus rhythm enough that they think she will be able to get there on her own and stay there so they canceled the plans for cardioversion tomorrow and she may actually get to go home tomorrow.

She has been up walking around the ward and such and she hopes to make six laps around the floor today.

Thanks for all of your kind comments!

Jon

That's wonderful news, Jon. A lot of the arrhythmias after surgery are from the heart being annoyed at being operated on. It takes a little time for it to calm down.

Best wishes, Betty. You're doing GREAT!

So glad to hear your mom is doing so well.....glad too that she didn't need a cardioversion. My husband, Tyce's, heart was in afib post op, too for a few days.....our heart surgeon wasn't worried, again he said it was just the heart telling you it didn't like being moved and jostled.

May she get home soon, it's the best feeling in the world.

Evelyn

Hey Betty,
Way to go! Now it is all downhill from here.
Take Care

DANG!! I was at Duke today for a doctor's appointment (Allans) and had I known she was doing so well I would have dropped by for a quick visit. Glad that she is getting herself and won't need cardiovesion. Say a big hello for me:)

HURRAY BETTY

HURRAY BETTY

Congrats on such a great result. And being such a good recoverer. And thanks, Jon and Chris, for keeping us in the loop. We are such worry worts and nosy types.

Hey, guys, one thing you could do that I'm sure your mom would love is be sure she has a laptop available until she's comfortable sitting up with the pc. My husband got one for me and I loved it. I could be comfortable in my recliner and change positions, etc. And a lot of times when I was too tired to chat on the phone or in person, I enjoyed surfing.

Betty, way to go. You and Melissa are setting a very high standard, you know.:D

Going home!

Going home!

I just talked to my mom on the phone and they are sending her home today! She says she can't wait to sleep in her own bed again and she looks forward to doing her own posts very soon.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice you have given us. I may not be doing any more posts since mom will be taking over but I already feel like I know some of you and I will surely poke my head in and listen from time to time.

Jon :D

The whole family is welcome any time. You don't have to be the one with the heart problems to be here. Thank you for keeping us posted on mom's doings. It really means a lot to us, almost as much as it means to you. Your part of the family here, so come back any time. ;)

Hi! I just spoke with Betty, she is HOME!!!!
She sounded GREAT!!!! She even answerd the phone as she was walking in the door! I'm sure she will posting soon her self. Thought I would pass along this wonderful news! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU BETTY!! WELCOME HOME!

Thanks Jon, and you too Chris. You guys are wonderful sons and I love you alot. I guess I'll be around for a while yet.;) And your wives are terrific too....as well as being great cooks.

Lots of Love, Mom

Great to see you back home again, Betty. The Heart Port procedure is really something isn't it?

Wishing you the best recovery.

Take care,

Hi Betty and WELCOME HOME!!!! What a thrill, huh? Remember, nap, nap, nap, walk, walk, walk, breathe, breathe, breathe---that's the VR.COM motto.

Well, girlfriend, you're now officially off my prayer list.....you scaled the mountain and made it home....CONGRATULATIONS, THE BEST IS YET TO COME.

Evelyn

The waiting is definitely the hardest part. I haven't got the heart port all figured out yet or maybe I was expecting it to be minimally invasive or something.Nancy, what was Joe's like? My biggest incision is at least 6 inches long but it is horizontally over the lower half of my right breast but that part hardly hurts. There is another incision maybe about 3 or 4 inches long and a little lower that has a big hematoma to the side of it and I am getting incredible muscle spasms in that area. The chest tube sites and drain sites arn't bothering me and the neck and groin areas look terrible but don't give me any problemsl

It just goes to show that tests can definitely be wrong. My symptoms all along all pointed to the mitral valve but the aortic and tri-cuspid showed at least moderate regurg both on the initial TTE and my heart cath. In June they showed less and on the TEE even less. The symptoms pointed to the mitral and that was true. Dr. Glower said he's sure my heart is now a much happier camper and hasn't functioned this well in over 15 years! I told him that pressurized senstion is all gone and it felt better already.

Problems right now: muscle spasms in rib cage...common with heart port.
atrial fib again (since about 4pm)
some definite fogginess

Hi Betty-

Joe had an incision in his chest just like yours. I teased him because it was quite swollen and looked like he had gotten a "lift" that he didn't need, LOL. It was the closest thing to a breast that he ever had. All gone now! Everything is back to normal. I don't think Joe's incisions were as long as yours, however. I would say, the breast one was about 5-6 inches, and the groin was about the same, and the rest were maybe like drain type openings. It's been a while, but I don't remember anything 10 inches long. Each surgery is different, though.

He had some back spasms and other pains in the area. But basically, it was much easier on him than another sternum would have been. That bone healing is nasty. Tissue healing takes a lot less time. Plus he had had 2 sternum surgeries already.

We have a friend of the family. a woman, who had this procedure a little over a year ago. She thought it was wonderful, no visible scars and she's back to playing tennis. Same surgeon as Joe had, Dr. DePan.

Joe's scars hardly show at all, but then it would be hard to tell which ones were from that surgery. He's covered with them.

You do sound wonderful, Betty. Overall, your healing time will be quite a bit shorter than a normal sternum. There's still some pain, but what surgery doesn't have that.

Congrats!

Congrats!

Way to go!!! I am so happy things are going fairly good(just need to whip that A-fib back into shape!)
remember to pamper yourself a little!
Take care,
