I'm 46 yrs young (feel like I'm 20). I have BAV and it has been monitored for 7 yrs or so. Recently, I was having some chest pains for a two week period in Feb - a catheterization was done and the next thing I know, I have an appt with the surgeon - I'm thinking, wait a minute, I thought I had another 5yrs, I feel fine. Surgeon stated I can get it done anytime, as long as it is in 2012.
I have surgery tomorrow (4/25/12) and I'm still on the fence, although based on much reading and great info from this group, I'm leaning towards the mechanical (on-x). Certainly, reviewing thegymguys hospital blog gave me a clear picture of what to expect and whether I would want to go thru this again in 10 years if I chose the cow valve. I'm still concerned about the coumadin regiment/hassle and the risk if I'm injured in an activity - since I'm very active (hiking, biking, tennis, sailing offshore.....).
Nothing like taking it down to the wire.
