oh, goodness, how cold my feet get! it is awful every time I lie down, no matter the temperature, my feet freeze, then cramp. miserable.

strange thing happened to me lately, tho. my bp has dropped to normal so I quit the bp meds and take an atenolol (beta blocker) when I am going out in order to have my heart not get overworked. I had quad bypass and need to not stress the poor old thing too much.

I have no cures for cold hands/feet. just have to live w/it, I spose. I never found a cure. never found how to not have a cough w/bp meds, either.

blessins
People with cold hands make the best pastry! They don't melt the butter in the mix. I'll bet your biscuits are just as flaky as I can be :p.

Take Heart,
Pamela.

This is a funny thread, I am seeing my pcp tomorrow, and one of the main reasons, is my hands are FREEZING, and tingly. I just started atenelol (sp) about 2 weeks ago, and now my hands are always cold, and feel like they are asleep sometimes. It's hard to tell with my feet, they are so messed up with other problems lol. But I have NEVER had cold hands, I have always been my wifes heating pad :D

I will let you all know what the doc says tomorrow.

bet you will find atenolol is the big culprit. do a serch on the net about cold feet and atenolol and bet you will find it.

I take toprol xl (name brand of metoprolol) and no cold hands here. In the past I took coreg and no cold hands on that drug either.

Hope you find one that helps you without unpleasant side effects.

After a discussion with my cardiologist I am trying an alternative calcium antagonist instead, Diltiazem (trade name Cardizem etc.). It is a bit early, but it has some effect on the heart rate (less than beta blockers) and some on the thrust, so my thumping is down a little bit. The issue is that I can probably not go up in dose due to being almost optimal on BP without meds.

Otherwise, I have no cold hands now, and also do not notice the same effect on physical capacity, so my few first test runs after my latest surgeries (femoral artery and leg) felt immediately much better.

I really wonder if standard beta blockers are not used too much without thinking. ACE & calcium antagonists generally seem to have less side effects.

Adam,
Are you tired with a heart rate at 50? The cardio told me he would like down to 50. Mine is around 90 now. I thought I would have no energy at 50. I doubt if I would ever be able to tolerate the medicine to get to 50.

i am on moetroprolol and when i got my first prescription one of the side effects did state where it could cause you to get cold hands and cold feet. i have had it on a few occasions but it always passes in a short time. i bundle myself up in blankets and normally take a nap and when i wake up my hands are fine again. i don't get it very often but it is something that i have experienced.
