My surgery is finally scheduled for September 17 at The Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Lars Svensson performing the aortic valve replacement. My pre-op is September 12 and I will have another heart cath (had one in June), CT scans of aorta, blood work and chest x-rays on the 12th.

I will also meet with Dr. Svensson on the 12th. to discuss the valve options because I am still not sure which way to go....I am 64 and in good health other than the stenotic bicuspid aortic valve....Don't like the idea of blood thinners for life but like even less the thought of another OHS in the future....I have read with great interest the posts regarding valve choice but still can't decide. Hopefully the meeting with Dr. Svensson will make the choice clearer....

I want to thank all of you for your valuable insight and information. This site is a wonderful thing for those of us (and their families) that have valve replacement as a part of their lives....

I am sure your meeting with Dr. Svensson will make the valve choice clearer. Even though you haven't been able to decide yet, at least you have more information and insights for your discussion and ultimately to make an informed decision. Best wishes and good luck on the 12th and 17th.

I had done some minor research before meeting with my surgeon; but ultimately I wanted to make the decision with him.
Re-ops are never ruled out....we just make a decision that works for us and we don't look back.
You'll be just fine.:)
