W.Michigan USA,
I'm on after surgery meds at home. (at home now second day) Pacerone 200 mg twice a day and Metoprolol Tart 50 mg twice a day. Since I barf them and any recent food up they probably aren't effective. I put a call in to the Dr. Probably a trial and error situation. Seems to be a morning thing. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems and what they did? Thanks

I ate a few saltines before taking my meds. And Metoprolol made me feel especially crappy, so I would take it and then lie in bed for two hours afterward. It sucks, but I preferred that to the queasiness. It did get a little better with time - hang in there.

You're sure you're not pregnant?

Just kidding. I would try Duffey's suggestion of eating some sort of "filler" food first. The only meds I typically gagged on were the potassium bars (they called them tablets, but I thought they were the size of small candy bars) that I had to take with Lasix. Eventually a friend (Ross, R.I.P.) told me about a capsule variety of potassium supplement, and all was well.

I would eat 2-3 saltines just before my meds and that helped, especially with the Amiodarone (Pacerone). Vomiting is common with that one, or so they told me. As for the Metoprolol, it made me dizzy, queasy and miserable - oh, and sleepy. I found that if I laid down for two hours after taking it, then I was fine. The key was to keep my head resting on a pillow to keep the dizziness away.

Yay, I can post again! Last night the site just swallowed up my messages and they disappeared. Hang in there, Justin, it should get better as your body adjusts to the medications. With luck, you won't be on them very long either.

Hi, Justin. I am in week five post surgery but for weeks 1 and 2 I was pretty sick also, so I called the surgeon's office and they prescribed an anti-nausea medicine. In my case it was the pain pills (Tramadol) that I thought was making me sick but the visiting nurse said it was probably the Amiodorone and that I would feel better once that was stopped, but in the interim to take the nausea pills every xx number of hours (I think it was 6 hrs). Ginger ale and small sips of Coke helped me, and as others have said, not taking the meds on an empty stomach if possible. Good luck to you, hope you soon feel better.

I didn't have nausea per se, but after coming home from surgery, I did have some gas and acid reflux to the point where it triggered PVCs (which I already had enough of). My doctor prescribed Prilosec and I took that for a couple of months.
