This probably doesn't belong on the Coumadin threads but since that is the only one I follow, I'm going to post it here. (Now you know that if you want to use bad words in conjunction with my name, all you have to do is go to another thread and hopefully I won't find out.)

The bad news is that I have prostate cancer.

The good news is that it is localized. I'm going to have it frozen on March 12th.

If I did nothing, I would have a 50% chance of living another 15 years, so I don't want to get too wild about having surgery etc.

Al,

Very sorry to hear about your bad news (prostate cancer) BUT I like the good news side of it - that it is localized and easily treatable. :) You caught it early - that is so great.

All good, healing thoughts and prayers are being sent out to you.

Life sometimes can be one challenge after another....

Al,

I'm so sorry to hear your news. I know that treatment for localized prostrate cancer is highly sucessful, but it's still tough to deal with a diagnosis of cancer.

You can count on the support of the people on this board!

Golly, Al, that was a shock to read. All the best.

Footnote: I think I can honestly say that I know a little bit of what you're going through. My husband had prostate surgery in January of last year. He didn't absolutely have to; he could have been monitored carefully for quite a bit longer, but he's one of the guys who want it out NOW. He is fine now, btw.

Wow, Al, very sorry to hear about this. As a cancer survivor, I can really relate to the feeling when they drop that 16-ton weight on your head with the diagnosis. You're right...it has a good news side since it sounds like they caught it early.

If there's anything at that we can do - let us know. It's the least we can do for all you have done for us.

Take care and let us know how it goes.

Johnny

Oh Al, wishing you all the best. As you are aware....early detection is the key.

Will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Please keep us posted.

Take good care.

Gosh!

Gosh!

Hi Al,

so sorry to hear your bad news but really glad about the 'good' element. I'm sure I speak for members of this board everywhere when I say I'm rootin' for you.

Al,
Sorry to hear about this. Wishing you all the best!
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Take Care

Hi Al,

We will focus on the good news and keep you in our prayers. You have done so much for many on this forum. We will try to do our part to be there for you!

God Bless!

Hi Al

You are instantly in my prayers and will continue to remain there. I know you will be fine!!! Evelything looks good, they caught it early, it's localized, you're having it taken care of and it won't affect your quality of life. I don't doubt for a second that you will be fine!

Hi Al,

Sometimes the road gets rocky doesn't it?

I'm so sorry you have this to face. I think I know a little of what you are feeling though. This week I was diagnosed with cancer of the upper lip (squamous cell) and although the prognosis is really good it still threw me a little. My surgery is scheduled up at Duke on March 9th.

I will keep you in my prayers. By the way, are you on coumadin? If so, I know a man who might be able to give you some advise if they ask you to hold it for surgery;)

Hello,

Sorry to hear your news. I'm sure glad they found it in time. My husband was very lucky too that his cancer was local and could be removed before spreading to other parts of the body. He had squamous cell carcinoma and required 3 surgeries. But was very lucky that he didnt lose him hand or arm. We are praying for you and wish you the best. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Best wishes.

Al, this is not good news. The good news is that it is one of the slowest growing cancers and usually they don't do anything about it because the male usually grows old and passes on from something else. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Al, I'm sorry to hear the news - but I'm glad it was caught early. I hope you find the strength to get through this rough time and lean on your friends for support.

I wanted to send you lots of hugs and best wishes. So, from me to you - I'm sending through this internet screen lots of BIG HUGS, MEDIUM HUGS and even tiny little hugs with lots of warmth and supporting love..

Al,
So sorry to hear about your news. You are in my thoughts and prayers for a highly successful treatment.

Hi Al-

It's so nerve-wracking to get this kind of news. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I am happy to hear that it was caught early on. You're a special member of the family, I put it on the calendar and I hope you will let us know how you're doing re: this situation physically and emotionally.

God Bless.

Well, Al, this just sucks

Well, Al, this just sucks

I know, it could be worse. But I remember well how awful the news was and what a stomach-dropping event in your life.

I've posted here before that the whole cancer thing was much harder to deal with than the heart. So my whole healing heart goes out to you.

I'm glad you caught it early and the prognosis is good; but by golly it's scary.

Thanks for letting us know so we can do our prayers and good thoughts etc. for you.

Glad it was found now so that you'll be ready to join us in Denver for the reunion!

Hi Al,

So sorry to hear the news, but greatful that you found it early and that you have a very good prognosis due to that!

Stay positive, and engage it head on.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rob
