I have returned to work three weeks post-op and so far am getting along well. I walk a couple miles a day and that seems to renew my energy and keep the old body from stiffening too much.

I still have no desire to eat and when I do the food and drink still tastes metallic. My leg is still hurting where they took the veins for my double by-pass; but is improving each week. The bovine-aortic valve seems to be working fine although I can hear it in the mornings.

The bottom line is I am getting along very well and will see my cardiologist next week for further confirmation of my recovery.

Congratulations on your return to work. Glad to hear you are doing so well. At three weeks I think you've broken a record (or at least tied one) for the earliest return to work. Just be careful, as your body is still healing inside even if you don't feel it. I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly and quickly.

Wow!

Wow!

Doug, That's great! It may be a record! I've heard that sort of leg pain is common for bypass patients. Sounds like you are doing really well! Keep doing what you're doing cause it is working! Brian PS: The sound of the valve may diminish in time. In any case it's gotta be a lot quieter than us mechanicals:D

Three weeks post-opt? Oh-oh, I hope my employeer doesn't see that - I keep telling them I'll be out at least a month! :p I'm 4 days away from my AVR surgery and it's good to hear that you are doing so well. I think I wouldn't mind if I lost my appetite for a few weeks - could stand to lose the weight! haha
Congrats!

AMAZING !

The usual recommendation for return to work is 6 weeks for jobs that are not physically demanding. Any complications can easily extend that.

Now that's impressive!!

Now that's impressive!!

Same hospital, same day, same surgeon, such a small world. Glad to hear you are doing so well my fellow clinic'r. Back to work already, that's simply amazing. I have had some complications so I probably am looking at another month. At least I have been cleared to start Rehab on Monday. Good Luck and take care (I'm the one you probably saw walking about wearing shorts and a sleeveless tshirt while on floor 10). Impressive place isn't it?

3 weeks? They wouldn't even let me drive for 5 weeks! Did you have the full split, or the more modern entry? That certainly would make a difference in recovery time for me, as I felt the healing of the bones and the shoulder and back pain caused from opening the rib cage was the worst. Until the pericarditis kicked in at 8 weeks, of course.

3 Weeks Is Great!

3 Weeks Is Great!

I went back to work at 3-weeks also, but my surgery was only for the AVR, so I would say you are doing F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C ...

Now that I am at 2-months, it's almost amazing how GREAT I am feeling!

I hope you continue on the road to recovery as well as you are doing and as everyone says, and reminded me -- don't overdo it.
