Andy
So now you're a grizzled vet, eh?
I always thought of you as the guy who was more nervous than I am, which gave me a little courage. Now what do I do?

Well done. It's great news they spared you the full chest cutting!
I'm surprised your surgeon didn't at least stop in to make sure his patient was mentally and emotionally stable as well as physically stable. Freakin doctors!

I suppose the food in your hospitals is just as bad as the hospital food here in the states. I can only assume the food is part of a discharge testing protocol -

"If he can eat this sh*t and live, he's OK to discharge."

Well, congrats tough guy.
You now have bragging rights and some cool scars.

Welcome home!

To be fair, the surgeons here seem to let the registrars do the bulk of the patient contact work, and they saw me regularly (twice a day). Looking at my scar this morning, I have to admit that I also somewhat exaggerated the size of the main scar: it's only about 5cm long! That said, my chest still looks alarmingly lopsided.

Welcome home Andy. Your chest will probably look normal again once you are able to get back to regular chin-ups, etc., but that's all in good time, yes? My body looked very strange to me the first few weeks. My torso seemed out of proportion. I lost a lot of muscle but it's starting to come around now that I've gotten back into my workout routines. Can't do much about the 8" scar down the middle of my chest and the 3 "stab wounds" below it. Maybe this is a guy thing, but I'm actually looking forward to summer so I can flash my scar to get a reaction from people.

I gotta say the top of my sternum was pretty strange looking the first few weeks after surgery.. it kind of bulged right out like there was some little alien critter trying to get out. Fortunately it's settled back down since then, although my cardio told me it can take up to a year for some people.

Meanwhile I've been very disappointed with the lack of reaction from people when I've gone out in a low v-neck shirt with my scar proudly on display..! Honestly, are we all so tactful and politically correct now? :D

A : )
