I had my AVR done on June 23, then some residual bleeding that had to be cleaned up, and then a piece of calcium from the aortic valve got into the blood stream and caused a stroke...I spent a week in the hospital for the surgery, and then 2 weeks in Rehab at the University of Washington for the stroke...I'm home now, walking on my own, and ready to head back to work soon...all in all, I'm feeling pretty good, happy to be on my own again for walking, looking forward to returning to work....can't drive for another month....

Martin,
it is good to hear from you and I am sorry to hear about the complication. Glad that you are on the mend and wishing you good health from this day forward.

Sorry to hear you had a rough time, but glad to hear things seem to be moving along well. I'm sure your good attitude is helping too.

Keep walking and getting better and maybe next summer we can get a Puget Sound group out on a hike together. Mt. Olympus? Townsend? or just an easy Dungeoness Spit?

Martin:

You've done remarkably well to overcome those complications so quickly. Even an uncomplicated recovery can take quite a toll on you for quite a while. So, don't be in a big rush to get back to work!

Martin,

Cosidering return to work so soon, after OHS surgery followed by a stroke? Wow you are a trooper.

Am not sure what kind of work you do that you would consider as appropriate for the rehab period, as you may want to consider at least another 30-60 days of healing and keeping your heart rate down.

Enjoy the time off and do not rush your return to work any more than you have to.
