My wife had her mitral valve replaced on monday. She is doing well in recovery. Dr. Vigness (her surgeon) had suggested going with an ON-X valve before the surgery but after her surgery he said he decided to go with the ATS valve based on the design and its popularity abroad. Does anyone have knowledge oe experience with this valve? Thanks.

Glad to hear your wife surgery went well. Wishing her a smooth recovery.

I really don't have any experience with the ATS valve. Hopefully someone here should be able to help you out.

Hello Mr. Cheryl and welcome !
Sometimes the surgeons make a last minute switch depending on which brand of valve fits the patient best.
Your wife should do well with the ATS.

Hi there and welcome..!

You can read about the ATS valve on this website. Medtronic recently acquired the company and they make valves too.

http://www.atsmedical.com/Physicians.aspx?id=1144 Seems the ATS is recognized as having "gentle treatment of the red blood cellsand low levels of hemolysis and thromboembolic events" and that's certainly a good thing..! The valve looks rather similar to the On-X from what I read.. Best wishes to you and your wife..

I have two ATC valves, aortic and mitral. I had my surgery in June 2005 and have been well since that time, in fact fitter than I was prior to developing heart issues. Medical staff have commented on how quiet my valves are, quite a bonus, I hope your wife has a nice quiet one too.

Thank you for the replies. It's definately reassuring to hear all the positive comments. I've was told by the good doctor she gets to come home today. Ya!
