Anyone have experiences with multiple vavlve replacements? The first bovine valve went very well and lasted 6 years. The second, mechancial valve has lasted 5 years and been a nightmare since it was put it. I'll a little worried about Valve #3 (tissue).

hi sorry to hear that, am sure there are lots on here who have had multiple ops, unfortunatley it goes to show there is no time span on any valve, tissue or mech,

Welcome, Happy you found us.

So sorry to hear all you've been through and sincerely hope this third Op will be easy on you and you enjoy a full and rapid recovery. Would you mind sharing about the problem you have had with your mechanical valve?

Please let us know how it is going for you.

Good luck on Monday. Whenever you have a chance to post back, please share the details of why the mechanical valve was such a nightmare for 5 years. Sounds pretty scary.

I am sorry that you are having to go through a 3rd surgery. One member that comes to mind is NJean who has been through multiple surgeries. Hopefully, she will be able to chime in.

I hope all goes well and I am sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers for your upcoming surgery.

H, I know tis is a little late, but my son (who turned 24 last week) has had 6 OHS, not all the same thing surgeries but a couple redos. His recovery for his latest surgeries were better than his earlier ones. Some of that of course was beccause the surgeons have learned so much in the last 25 years as well as how to handle some more of the most common complications. From OUR experience and lots of others i know whose children had multiple REDOs, or were the patient themselves, the REDOs are a little more complicated for the surgeons, especially getting to the heart thru all the scar tissue in some people, but they didnt feel any difference recoverying from the 3rd or 4th than they did the earlier ones, well somethings were a little better when they knew what to expect and the best things to do to handle everything. Hopefully you find the same experience.
Since you (or your husband?) are retired, hopefully this will be the last OHS you need to go thru ad IF this valve needs replaced they will be able to do it by cath.

I have had 4 OHS. OHS # 2 removed my pulmonary valve. I lived without a pulmonary valve for 19 years. OHS #3 was placement of a cadavar pulmonary valve. Cadavar valve lasted 19 years. OHS #4 2 years ago was pulmonary valve replacement with a bovine valve. I had a very event free recovery.

Debbie
