Gary\Debbie,

You've found the best support group on the web here at VR.org, so please don’t hesitate to ask questions. I'm 9 days post op and this site really helped me build the confidence needed to get through my OHS surgery and then onto recovery. You'll be in my prayer's on the 19th, so please keep us posted.

Hi all. Were going to Tucson fri. for chest x rays and pre op exam. It feels so good knowing that things are going to get better. My wife Debbie is going with me. She has found a hotel near the hospital to stay in during my surgery. They have a discounted rate for people staying for hospital visits. We will be coming back to Phoenix for the weekend & returning mon. AM for the operation.

Saw the pre op doctors and nurses. Very nice people, have a real good feeling about this. The doctor said he has never seen a presure gradiant higher than mine at 100. I guess geting 100 on a test is not always good!

Surgery successful! Minimally invasive, 4 inch wound. Gary came to ICU without the trach, and tgey are takingout pic lines and chest tube now. Minimal pain that is being managed. Hevlooks great! Will be moved to a regular room in the next few hours. He had a very schlerotic bicuspid aortic valve but now has tge new Edwards bovine. Recovery starting. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. This UMC center n Tucson is phenomonal with their care, we cannot say enuf good things. More later. Deb

He is having more pain than he thought he would but they are working to manage it. Morphine + Gary = not a good thing

I'm happy to hear that Gary is in recovery! Congrats! Hope the healing process goes as smoothly as possible. Best wishes!

Tom

Glad to hear that he is through the surgery. My hope is that his pain management team will be able to help him through this tough spot. Can they give him something other than morphine? Hope so. Recovery gets a good start if you are not in pain unnecessarily. Give him my best wishes.

Chris, they must have the right meds now, he is sleeping and appears comfortable. Think they gave him oxycodone which is to,erating well. Still waiting on a regular room to move him to. They came in to remove more tubes, but are letting him sleep. Thanks again for the support. And everyone, sorry for mis-spelled words. This IPad and I still dont see things tge same way, lol.

Thinking of you both Debbie,
Glad the op wen well, hope he's not in too much pai,
Love Sarah xxx

Slight setback today. They had to put the cath back in as he has blood in his urine. Clots formed from the cath during surgery. But his wound looks great and the pain is under control. He is walking some and sleeping. Friday he gets his get out of jail free card. Received an Edwards bovine 23cm(?) valve. Ultrasound looked and sounded great.

Gettin out of jail tomorrow, cath in tow! His spirits are good today and he is yakking up a storm! Pain managed now by tylenol. He loves his pillow buddy!

WoooooHooo. From a fellow bovine valver, I am happy to hear that things are going smoother. However, I must warn you both that now whenever you pass a newly mown yard or field you will have a tendency to want to stop and chew the cud...It's all good.

Debbie,
Congratulations to Gary for powering through the surgery. I wish himi continued success through his recovery.

"there is no place like home"....we made it and he is resting. The 2 hour drive up from Tucson went fast and well. Now we recover!

Gary and Debbie,

I wish you all the best.

When my husband was in the hospital for valve replacement and bypass, I was so tired and anxious and after all day at the hospital, I would come on this forum and these are the nicest people in the world. They encouraged me, gave me strength and really made it possible for me to get a little bit of sleep.

We're all wishing you an easy operation and quick recovery.

Tovah
