Hi All

I had my Aortic valve repaired 3 months ago here in the UK and really struggling with my loss of taste.

It's getting to the point now that I'm being put of eating, Even the thought of having something to eat makes me feel sick.

I've been told by Surgeons that the procedure was a success and they have no idea why my loss of Taste has disappeared.

Just looking for some advice from anyone that has also been affected by this issue.

I've never experienced that (after 3 OHS in my life) but that sounds really frustrating.

A quick google search yields 3 credible sources on this with the view that mostly its temporary.

In your case hover one would expect that by 3 months it would be abating. Didn't get covid didja?

I had a bout of pancreatitis after my last open heart. Everything tasted way too sweet. I needed the blandest of food to tolerate eating. Lost a lot of weight.

Open heart is a very invasive procedure that can be hard on your body in unpredictable ways. I expect it will pass in time, but blood work may be in order for you.

Have no advice per se other than to give it time. I had a similar experience with my heart attack/double bypass/AVR. All the food in the hospital during my recovery had a weird taste to it, thought it was just THAT food (even called the kitchen and asked why everything had this bizarre taste to it), then noticed same thing at home too IIRC, can't remember the details now but eventually that got back to normal.
