I just got mine last week and was actually happy to hear/feel "thump, thump" like you might when you just met the love of your life for the first time. It's not a click like I expected. My heart rate is still in the mid 80s and fairly strong, I think partially due to my HCT of 28 (Pre-surg was 45), and I'm hoping the rate and force will decrease as my anemia corrects. The loudness of the thump changes in intensity with position, as others mentioned. There are times when I am very relaxed and it is mild. Probably body weight, structure, and geometry relative to other things that can transmit sound affect the perception of the valve noise.

I've heard mine continuously for 12 years. Don't think it about it much anymore; it just seems normal to me.
