Anyone else experienced a heart attack as well as the valve problems? My wife has also been looking at the South Beach Diet for us. I have to talk to the cardiologist first.
My cardiologist strongly recommends The Zone. I have been eating South Beach (not to lose weight but as a healthy way of eating). My cholesterol and all numbers come back so good that he doesn't say much to me about it. I know he prefers The Zone though.
Hadn't heard of the "Zone" up until now. I know that my unhealthy life style lead to the heart attack, but because of it, they found the Valve and Aneurysm. I quit the Cigs, and My diet is changing drasticly. I need to lose about 30-40 pounds but eating the right things is suddenly #1 for me now. Glad you guys are all still around! I'm going in next week for my first Fasting Blood work. I curious to see if the Cholesterol levels have gone down in the past 9 weeks since my heart attack. Doctor has me on Lipitor since the Heart attack so I also wonder what that has done.
No heart attacks here, Johnny, but I wanted to post to encourage you to keep eating right as your #1 priority. My husband was told he had beginning coronary artery disease in July of 2004. He was told to adhere to the Ornish Diet and put on 20mg of Lipitor. He dropped 50 lbs. in the course of 6 months or so (also working out for an hour as close to every day as his busy schedule will allow) and his total cholesterol went from 280 then to 130 now. His "good" cholesterol is great and his "bad" cholesterol is low and the CAD has completely disappeared.
If the sink gets clogged because you pour gunk down the drain you can unclog the drain but its just gonna clog again if you don't stop pouring the gunk down the drain.
Whether you choose South Beach,The Zone, the Mediterranean Diet, Ornish or any sensible plan (NOT Atkins), you will not be pouring gunk down the sink anymore and that has got to help!
Yes, I actually had a heart attack thirty years ago that resulted in mitral valve malfunction. My cardiologist says that although it is rare, it does happen.
In addition, I got heavy as an adult and was warned to lose weight or my heart. Lost 50 pounds on Weight Watchers 2 1/2 years ago. From what I know, WW is close to the South Beach diet. But just eat right, monitor your weight, and keep seeing your cardio as needed. Take care!
