Hi Folks, Has anyone seen anything (films or DVDs) interesting lately? I checked out Sin City and liked it. This one reminded me of the comic books I use to read. It's not for everybody (especially children) but it captures the comic on screen feel. Will

I love movies but for some reason this year I haven't seen all that many.

But last weekend I saw The Interpreter with Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn. I'm not normally a major Nicole Kidman fan, but I thought she did a great job in this one, as did Penn and the supporting actors. It's a thriller filmed in and around the United Nations building in New York City (great photography of the city). The plot involves an ttempt to assassinate a dictator of a fictional African country. which Kidman, a UN interpreter overhears and which Penn, as a Federal agent, must prevent. The suspense kept me absorbed for most of the movie; but it is also a movie about issues.

I also saw a German movie, "Downfall" about the last days of Hitler in his bunker in Berlin. I don't know whether to recommend it or not. It is very well done, powerful in fact -- but, given the subject, it is inevitably depressing. The action alternates between the claustrophobia of the bunker and the bloody chaos of the city at war outside. Bruno Ganz, the great German actor, is superb as Hitler. The other actors are very good too and as I didn't recognize any of them (not being in the habit of seeing German movies!) they were very convincing in their roles as Nazi bigshots. (You weren't always thinking, Golly, is that [fill in name of famous actor] playing Goebbels?) Definitely worth seeing, it makes you think -- but not on a day when you are already feeling depressed.

I don't think either of these is in DVD yet.

Just got back from Star Wars

Just got back from Star Wars

Just walked in the door from "Revenge of the Sith". Would be curious to hear from others as to first impression (no spoilers, please). Any other crazy opening nighters out there?

I'm up waiting for my daughter to get home after seeing Revenge of the Sith. Don't know who's crazier, me for waiting up, or her for going to see it.

Believe it or not....

Believe it or not....

I am hooked on the "Harry Potter movies. I have the first 3, Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and The Prisoner of Azcaban, and they are all really well done. Harrybaby666 :D

I love the Harry Potter movies also. At least I can look forward to more of them, unlike Star Wars which is now over (as we know it). :( :( :(

I felt disappointed at the end of ROTS and didn't know why initially. Now I realize it's a huge let down because it is the last one Lucas is going to make (so says he - unless he changes his mind). We geeks can only hope. :D

Shelby said she didn't think ROTS was good. She was disappointed. Had expected the last one to be incredible. Possibly her hopes were too high. But the again, she's not a Star Wars fanatic, just a movie lover in general (like her Mom!)

She's now watching the original SW movie in our family room. :)

Pam,

I think the movie is called "61" - a good movie.

I agree about ROTS. I wanted more story than action but that's me. A lot of people in the theatre were positively reacting to the action and, I have to say, the special FX were really good.

I had also figured out a lot of the plot line since I have been thinking about it for so long so maybe I just wanted some twists. Although we all know where it had to go to fit in with SW, episode IV.

All in all, I thought it was a good movie. It just needed a little more plot development with the characters.

ok, who saw Star Wars?? Harry? Did you? Anyone? My SIL, is an absolute fanatic, I sure would like to give him some info before he goes. love the pup

Yaps,

I saw SW last night (still yawning from lack of sleep). Let me know what info you are looking for.

Would you believe that I have NEVER, EVER seen Star Wars? Not even the very first one. LOL I am more of a horror movie fan than I am Sci Fi. Don't know why, but I guess it's just the suspense and not knowing what's gonna happen next. Harry :D   :D

Just a cap of it for SIL ..thanks :)

This is the film that pulls all of them together. Tells how Darth Vader came to be and why, Luke & Leia's (sp?) birth, what happens to their mother, etc. There is a lot of action in the first half, the second half has more story line. Great special effects and a fit finish to the movies.

I don't want to go into anymore detail because I don't want to be a spoiler.

A big thumbs up and definitely worth seeing a few times.

Go Harry Potter Is Right!!!

YES - it was 61 now that I think of it - hope it's on tonight - want to watch the ending ot if.

HarryBaby - from what people who saw ROTS told me, this one is DEFINITELY not for kids. It's very dark and grim. You may like it!!!!

Has anyone ever seen "Rat Race?" I swear, that's another crackup movie! The Barbie Museum - I swear I could not stop laughing.

I have the movie Rat Race...I loved the part where Whoopie Goldberg and her "daughter" sneak into this experimental car, and after they come out of it, they are so wobbly that they get mistaken for mental health patients...I about died laughing throughout the whole movie, and yes the Barbie Museum was hysterical! Harrybaby :D :D :D

The wife and I watched "I (heart) Huckabees" the other night...

A little quirky, slightly convoluted plot/storyline, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. I've always been a fan of Dustin Hoffman though, unfortunately, he's not always given the best of films to be in...

This one was worth seeing.

StarWars will have to wait at least a week or so for me. Both my wife and I want to see that one (we're not bringing the kid, he's too young for the "intensity" of the film on the big screen) but we're gonna let the crowds die down a little.

CNN.com had a little "Jedi Quiz" thing on their site today. I took the quiz, aced it on the first try, Jedi Knight....

Hey, name all the colors of lightsabres.

In the movies - blue, green, red & purple. Although some characters from the books had magenta, silver & yellow light sabers.

Harry - how about "prairie dogging it?" I could not stop laughing. Jon Lovitz is so funny in that movie - and Bean - I really don't like him but in that movie - "I am running, I am running..."!!!!

The other one that's hysterical to me is "Lake Placid." Betty White is a hoot in that - hearing her swearing almost made me tinkle.

I have never seen Lake Placid, but if I get the chance, I will.....That would make me wanna go too. lol and Yes, the "pairie dogging it." NOW THAT WOULD BE WHAT I CALL DESPERATE FOR MONEY. LOL And also I thought it was funny when Seth Green and Vince Veluff were driving up the Radar tower at the airport. I about died laughing right then and there. Harrybaby666 :D :D :D :D :D

Talking about funny movies...one of my favorites is MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING...loved the part when the groom-to-be's parents meet the FAMILY.

Boont keck anyone? Hope no one needs a bibopsy anytime soon. Remember?
