I was just wondering if anyone else out there was diagnosed with a unicuspid aortic valve. When I originally saw both my cardiologist and surgeon they both diagnosed me with BAV with severe calcification. (Less than 2 months from diagnosis to operating table) But seeing the valve during replacement which was about a month ago - it actually was a unicuspid aortic valve. I didn't think it was too different from a BAV when they told me about their discovery after surgery - but when I saw my cardiologist today not only was he excited because he had never (in 35 years) had a unicuspid patient but also said the unicuspid valve could effect the heart differently then the bicuspid. I did a little research online but I was curious if anyone else has or had a unicuspid valve.
Thanks Kim

Hey, I had one as well. They thought it was a BAV my entire life, but after my Ross, discovered it was a Unicuspid. They are more rare than BAVs, though I've been told they're just a BAV that's a little bit more fused together.

My daughter had one till last year, when it closed like a toilet seat. She fainted but when she hit the ground it opened again. She had AVR and is in good shape now.I am BAV.
