Hello Harlan and welcome. :)

Others have the advantage over me; never heard the name Harlan before so can't relate it to anyone.

All the best for 5th June, should be a stroll. Keep positive ;) :)

Welcome Harlan!

Great to see you found this board, many of us have found a good bit of comfort in the advice and stories here, not to mention some of the unique personalities!

I wish for you a successful surgery and an uneventful recovery!

Peace,
Ruth

Thanks everyone for the welcome and words of encouragement. Today I completed all the pre-op procedures that were scheduled for me (carotid artery ultrasound, chest x-ray, blood work, met with respiratory therapist, and the anesthesiologist.) I got some unsolicited very positive feedback about my surgeon, including from the anesthesiologist. It turns out that my surgeon, Dr. Allen Graeve, did AVR on the anesthesiologist's mother. So that was a good feeling.

I am fairly calm about Thursday, nervous yes, but not panicking. I'm pretty sure I won't sleep Wednesday night though!

You could hardly ask for better positive feedback than that! Hoping all goes well for you, Harlan :) .

Harlan:
Good luck on your upcoming BAVR surgery. You are two years younger (I'm 64) than me, and I made it through the surgery without any complications.

Have you decided on the valve type? It is a very important decision. After researching the valve options and discussing with my surgeon, I choose the Carpentier Edwards Bovine Pericardial Tissue valve. For those our age (over 60), the valve will last over twenty years and you will NOT have to be on blood thinners...

Look forward to reading your posts on the other side of the mountain...
