Yeah, I know...way off topic, but figured I'd share with ya'll anyway....
John C (El Camino list) and I went to a car show at Elgin Community College Saturday afternoon.
In John's words:
"It was a revelation to see some alternative fuel cars there. They run Biodiesel, and Vegitable Oil. They start on the diesel, and after they warm up, they switch to the oil. You switch them back to diesel before shutting them down, so you can start again. Basically, you need to heat up the oil, in order for it to run right. You get about the same mileage, and it smells like French Fries or fish instead of diesel. The kits are about $800 to get. These guys installed their own, in everything from an early 80's Van to a 2005 Jetta. Start with a Diesel, and end up burning free oil from your favorite greasy spoon. They have to pay to have someone haul the oil away, so they are happy to let you have it. You have a tank in your garage, and filter it through a 1 micron filter sock, let the other sediment settle to the bottom, and take the good stuff off the top."

It was a great show and I'm glad John called me to get me out there.... It was one of those weekends where I had several (er, way too many) options...and I hadn't planned to go to any of 'em...he he heh.
