Hi everybody...this is Susan...just letting you all know that Fisher's (Steve) surgery went smoothly and he's now resting in his room. The surgery lasted 3 hours with no complications.
He made me promise that I'd let you know as soon as possible. ;-)

The doctor said that once he had Steve opened that he saw that his condition was worse than he'd thought. His aortic valve was litterally " a white pillar with a pinhole opening in it". His heart muscle was thickened to more than twice the size of a normal heart. The important part is that he's doing OK now--and will soon be on the road to recovery.

Thank you all for your support...prayers.. and good thoughts. I'm on my way back up to the hospital now and I will post more here later. ( I just KNOW as soon as he's coherrent--he'll mention that truck and how much he WANTED to get the license #!)
Till next time.... Susan

Whew

Whew

It's amazing how many of us were "done" just in time. I'm so glad it all went well for him and we really appreciate your posting so soon. Hardly had a chance to worry about him.

Have a good weekend, and get plenty of rest and eat well. You're going to need a lot of energy once he comes home from the hospital.

Oh, that darn old truck found Steve, too, huh? It's all downhill from here. Best of luck.

HOORAY for Steve! That's just great. I'm so happy to hear the good news, and that he got things done when they needed to be.

Congratulations to you too, Susan. Thanks for letting us know, and please get some rest tonight, unless you're on an adrenalin high.

God Bless.

Hey Susan,
Thanks for keeping us updated. Glad to hear that Steve is doing well. I hope you are doing OK also. You guys are still in my thoughts and prayers.
Take Care

Dave

I'm sure glad he got this done now and not later! That was too close. Rest when you can, but try to be there as much as possible because alot of things go on in the hospital that nurses just can't get to right away. He'll be out of it for most of this evening.

Keep us posted.

Thanks Susan,

I think you know how much it means to us that you are posting for Steve.

Now the wait for surgery is over and now is the time to recover. Encourage him to use his spirometer often. I remember it hurting quite a bit at first because when I breathed in deep it created tension on one of my drains. Even if it hurts he still needs to do it.

Please keep us updated and tell him hello!

Thanks again, Susan.

Susan,
Thanks for the quick update. I feel like I know Steve well now. And once again, a "just in time" valve replacement!

I hope the limo hit him and not the truck.

My wife was (and still is) the single most important part of my recovery. If you put up with him for a few days, he's ornery enough to make a quick recovery. But he can't do it without you (as he'll soon see).

Thanks again. Give Steve my best!

Susan, Thanks so much for letting us know. I am so glad the surgery was done in time. You have to be the strong part of the team in the recovery now. Thank God for people like you. Just give him our good wishes and let us know if there are any problems. Im glad it is over and all is well !!!!

Susan,

Tell Steve I've changed to singing the Hallelujia chorus, and ask him if he's really scarlet and gray. :)

Susan,
Thanks for the good news, I know Steve is glad to get the surgery over with. Here's wishing him a great & speedy recovery.
Best wishes,

Oh, gee, I was hoping he'd get that plate number so we could get the driver arrested before Tuesday. I'm so glad Steve got through it fine. He's been in my thoughts a lot this week. Good luck to the both of you on a speedy recovery.

Susan,

When I got home tonight the first thing I did after hugging my kids was to run to the PC and check for news of Steve and Chevyman. I was so happy to hear that both are doing fine.

Now you need to listen to everyone when they tell you to take care of yourself also. Steve's recovery will be as hard on you as it is on him. Be sure to get enough rest. You will be no good to Steve if you get yourself sick or exhuasted. My wife has been the pillar of my recovery but she is really worn down. So my advice to you is be sure that you are getting enough rest.

I will be praying for both of you and hope that he has an uneventful and speedy recovery.

Rick
