Something about me

Something about me

Hi!

It's really encouraging to read all these messages. I thought it would be fair to tell you something about me.

I never suspected that I would have something wrong with my heart. Last October I was seeing a doctor because I had a flu and I thought I needed some antibiotics to cure it. During the routine checking he listened to my heart with a stethoscope and told me that there was something odd that ought to be examined further.

I had Electrocardiogram done in November and Echocardiogram done in December (both tests were done in my local hospital). Later I was examined further in a hospital that has a cardiology department (Echocardiogram in March, Cardiac catheterization in April).

Results:
- severe leakage in aortic valve
- left venticle dilated
- decreased function
- must be operated

I still don't have any significant symptoms. Maybe I get tired more easily, but I have always thought that I'm not that fit I used to be.

The operation will be done in a hospital that is situated 80 km away from the place I live.

Thank's again for your feedback.

Aleksej

Thanks for sharing some of your story with us. If it makes you feel any better, it is not a particularly unusual scenario. Many here were 'knocked off their feet' in shock to learn they had heart issues.

We sincerely wish you a successful surgery and uneventful recovery and hope you will come back and let us know how you are doing.

Wishing you all success on Tuesday, and a smooth and full recovery....

Re your last post: It is pretty common for this problem to be discovered even though symptoms haven't yet materialized. The thing is, you don't want to wait for the symptoms because by the time that happens, there may be major damage. (When my time came, at age 63, I was noticing just being slightly more out of breath walking up the basement stairs, but when he went in, surgeon found what he called "catastrophic" leakage and enlargement -- I couldn't have gone much further.) You are smart for getting this taken care of -- then you can move on with your life. All best wishes to you....
