Dad is making good progress

Dad is making good progress

Hello again

Sorry for not posting over the weekend, I was with Dad and then my daughter had her 5th Birthday party - a hectic time.

Dad seems to be doing better - he still has a small clot in his heart but they are treating this gradually (over six weeks or so) with Wharfarin to hopefully break this down over time. This seems like the best approach relative to other options. He has had a better weekend, and has walked about the ward, had a shower and is feeling brighter. He's still struggling with his breathing a little (we are a bit paranoid as this was a symptom prior to his last re-operation) but his BP and pulse are now good so no signs of any futher problem at this time. He's eating well and is even watching a little TV. He certainly benefits from a little O2 from time to time though. He's also got a bit of fluid build-up on his legs and torso (presumably because he has been flat on his back for much of the past two and a half weeks) but this is now being treated with water tablets so should clear.

Fingers crossed that he will continue to improve today and if so, the chances are that he could be discharged tomorrow... Here's hoping. He'll no doubt have a bit of follow up over the next six weeks to monitor his INR but getting out of hospital will be a huge plus for him.

Thanks for your help and support - I'll keep you updated

Simon

i am so glad to hear your dad is doing better i am praying for him you just hang in there the bumps are almost over and he will just keep getting better each day i hope he does get to come home tomarrow

Dad is home....

Dad is home....

Well, he was not discharged earlier in the week because of some issues getting his INR in range and the need to get rid of some water build up on his legs, but he got the green light yesterday and is now at home. The nurse described him as a 'cat on a hot tin roof' and desperate to escape....

He can now focus on the next six weeks of slow recovery - getting him walking for 5 mins or so twice a day at present.

Hopefully all will settle down now and he can start to focus on the future again.

Thanks for all your support, help and good wishes. It has been a brilliant resource for us during the course of Dad's operation (and will continue to be). I'll try and thank each of you personally during the next week or so and look forward to contributing to your threads and issues over the coming months and years.

Kind regards

Simon

Simon, SO happy to hear that Alan's finally gotten to go home. It's a whole lot easier to recover at home, in my opinion. Hope the home recovery is uneventful and smooth.

Keep us posted on how you're all doing!

Take care
Melissa
