I chatted this weekend with the husband of a friend. He's a manager with the TSA.
He said -- based on meetings he's been to this week -- that he doubts that carry-on luggage restrictions will ease up. Said that it's frightening that everyday items can be made into an explosive. He cited hydrogen peroxide & Coca-cola. Yes, not everyone flies with hydrogen peroxide, but some people do have a tiny bit for whatever reason. (People who show light-colored cats that tear up sometimes use it to "bleach" the tear stains around their cats' eyes.)
So, for those of you who fly:
Just count on having to check nearly all of your luggage. My friend's husband said that if you use a 7-day Rx container, to also carry a written Rx from the prescribing doctor.
I told him about PT/INR machines some of us use. He suggested having my doctor write a note authorizing me to use (brand name) PT/INR machine and accompanying testing supplies (describe).
Based on what he knows, he said that should clear any future hurdles instituted by the Transportation Safety Administration.
From one of my cat show-related message boards:
Woman flew from US to Denmark recently. Her carry-on was stolen after she got to Denmark, I don't know the circumstances. Had her meds in it. She has heart conditions plus, I think, diabetes. Total of 5 Rxes. A kind-hearted taxi driver took her to an ER where she could get duplicate Rxes.
She didn't have extra Rx slips from her doctor to use in case of emergency.
I would want to prepare for as many possible scenarios as possible: Carry my 7-day meds container in my purse with extra Rx scrips. Carry extra stash of warfarin/whatever in my carry-on. Carry extra stash in my checked luggage.
Just think like a Boy Scout: Be prepared!!!!!!!!
