Minimally Invasive

Minimally Invasive

Good morning!. Yes I had the Minimally Invasive procedure for AVR. I had a tissue valve installed. Let me first start by saying to Stretch " You spoke to me a few days ago where I was about 9 or 10 days post op, you should speak to me now". I am now 16 days post op and played my drums yesterday for 30 minutes non stop. (keep in mind I have been playing since I am 5yrs old so my heart rate barely rises during performing. I have the itch to cut my lawn etc... I can walk a mile or 2 without any fatigue. No pain whatsoever except for sleeping on my belly or sides, and the pain is mild.
They use some sort of skin bonding glue on the outside where you almost cant even see my incision which is approx 2.5 inches above my right nipple, horizontal and 7" in length. My friends and family and even myself cannot believe I had this surgery such a short time ago. Surgery was Thursday morn, released on Monday Afternoon .Since my release from the hospital (4 1/2 day stay). I have used approx 25 vicodins. I probably took a couple just for the buzz....... I am scheduled to go back to work on Oct 25th. I am scheduled to go back to performing with my band on Oct 27th.
If all you had was a Sternotomy without the heart surgery, you would probably need a month to recover. If anyone has read any of my past posts and knows my agony trying to decide on a valve, here is a little irony; I am temporarily on coumadin (6 weeks) 16 days in and have had no side effects yet....................... Good Luck Lynn.........Peace J :p

Jay....that's amazing! I'll be asking about that, I have the feeling it won't be an option though as I have some a-fib.

Thank you for informing us on your recovery, just don't over do it! My 13 year old plays drums and I know how hard he bangs em :D
