A Navajo themed photo contest.

The link below takes you to a small photo contest on a Navajo Nation site. If you go there you will see several good photos. So far, voting has been very light. Of the photos I submitted, I think the one titled "Monument Valley before dawn" may have the best chance, even though it does not look that special until you click on it. I think the photography is definitely worth the click required to get to the site.

I love ya Dennis, but the Antelope Spirit was just too amazing to pass by. I voted for that Canyon de Chelly moment.

However your photo is stunning!!! A close second.

Thanks for sharing. We've seen all those places (have a gorgeous Navajo weaving; eagle feathers, from Hubbel Trading Post) except the Canyon de Chelly. Must go back there someday!

The # of votes for each picture is only 1 portion of deciding the wining photograph. It is too bad the contest didn't come along a little later. Barb & I recently had the chance to befriend a Navajo woman, and we might have the opportunity to visit their winter camp, and travel to places that would otherwise be very hard to get to. We had a leisurely dinner at our house, and found we really enjoyed each other's company.

I think one of the biggest secrets to getting good pictures in the Southwest is the interest and ability to communicate and make good friends across the different cultures. The Navajo, based on my experience, are generally at ease with photography. However, the trick is getting access to the things you might want to photograph. I hope we will all have many good times together.

There are some really great shots there, but I'm a pre-dawn person, so yours got mine.

I do more things before 4am then most people do all day!

Thank you. There are a lot of good pictures on there. At the moment my exposure to the Navajo is limited, but I am working on it.

I posted them on my page take a look and give me your opinion. I value yours because I said it before I really like your work. On a side note a really cool thing happened last week.
