Six weeks shy of my one-year anniversary (mitral valve replacement), I had a great day: I helped my daughter sort through boxes that were in storage, loaded the car with about a dozen boxes of books, etc. (weighing about 25 lbs each), unloaded the car, carried the boxes up eight steps into her building and then down to the basement. No breathlessness, no fatigue, no heart pounding out of my chest. I wish I had a video to show my cardiologist so he'd understand what I meant when I say "I'm active".

Isn't it great when you can do "normal" stuff. One of the first things I did a month after AVR was take a short hike with my boys. It wasn't a big hill, a rather easy trail, but it was up a mountainside and when we got to the top I could see forever.
