Cats Named Panda

Whoa Karlynn.....you little meanie you..
Panda darlin' (yes, name change) is the proud owner of a new doggie door.. and he figured it out within an hour of installation. In fact, the installation was a trial of patience...but the man of the house got it done..:
The door is really bigger than it looks in pic.
We also have a cat named Panda; about 12 pounds of black and white mutt Manx. We actually have a lot of cats (see "Clutter") which contribute to the general disarray. Let's see...Kiatt, Harlequin Persian mix, 18 or so years old.
Alcor, gray/white Persian mix, 13 years old. Blip, Huge, probably Maine Coon Cat , 12 years old, tricolor agouti/tabby. Marble, mackerel tabby housecat, 7 years old or so (I forget). Ghost, gray housecat, 7 or so years old. Beastie, Maine Coon cat cross, brown tabby (this cat actually jumped into my car at a grocery store and wouldn't leave. We put "found" ads in papers, but no one claimed him. Per vet, already neutered, probably 7 years old). Agate, classic tabby-and white Manx mix, 6 years old (hates cows). Peanut, beautiful classic tabby "rumpy" Manx, 5 years old and neurotic. Lacie, tortoiseshell Manx mix, 5 years old and a "pill". Spots, white with black spots, Manx mix, 4 years old. Ebony, black with white locket, 4 years old. Tripawed, black and white almost tuxedo, has three legs, also huge, 2 years old. There have been many, many others, and there are some outdoor cats that hang out once in awhile. I could have gotten some of the ages wrong for some cats; Chris keeps track. Most are good mousers; Blip caught so many gophers that at one time she almost weighed 20 lbs. They are pretty much either pound kitties, strays, abandoned in our yard, give-aways, or kittens that we couldn't find homes for. They have to be wormed every 6 months, and vaccinations are pricey and difficult, but we love our cats.
We played with the idea of a cat door, but we also have a skunk problem, and they can be downright friendly. Chris actually petted one in the dark, mistaking it (at first) for a cat. We have had some pretty huge skunks who get fat off our chicken eggs and chicks. They can be brutal to chickens, so we don't care to have them around. Chris thinks the skunks would come into the house through the cat door. We obviously want to avoid that.
I just want to warn you all to make sure you keep up on vaccines, especially if your cat goes outside. Our youngest cat was recently diagnosed with FIV, and now has to be quarantined inside. He got jaundiced, and so I took him to the vet. I expected a diagnosis of FIP, or Feline Infectious Peritonitis, but FIV was it. He had the FIV and FIP vaccines, but apparently didn't get the boosters. Like humans with HIV, he could live 10 years or 2 months. They even get it through sexual contact or a bite! We also have to make sure the other cats keep up on their vaccines for FIV.
I was worried about the effect this would have on Chris and his recovery, especially if we had to have the cat put down. He has his difficulties with depression, especially since the surgery, and missing the booster is something he blames himself for. I tell him that these cats have great lives, that Tripawed wouldn't be alive at all if we hadn't rescued him, and that we can't help every homeless cat in Idaho. He felt a little better, but I am always worried about anything that makes him more depressed.
Sorry this is so long in small talk. We have pictures but have to find them in the clutter.
