Greetings,
So today is 6 weeks since my surgeries. Yes, I did say surgeries (a 7 hour one and a 5 hour one on the same day). I just wanted to say how great I am feeling. Physio seems quite impressed with my progress as well as everyone else. I still have some issues though and hopefully these are common.
After the surgeries I had some numbness in both of my hands. I could still feel things but it was like the point when your fingers are starting to fall asleep and you get that pins and needles feeling. Thankfully that cleared up in my right hand quickly and my left hand is slowly getting better. I think the main reason for my left hand still being numb is due to the IV line being in my left arm. I would tend to not use the arm as much when I was in the hospital so things have to slowly work themselves back to normal.
The top inch of my incision and my drain holes are still "open". They are not bleeding but they are a bit weepy. I was surprised they didn't stitch or steri-strip the drain holes but it seems like some places just leave them open.

I forgot to mention that I am having some wonky heart rhythms as well. Occasionally my heart will seem to double beat or it will seem to skip a beat. From what I have been told by a doctor that this is normal and should settle down as the heart heals. I hope it does as it makes sleeping annoying when you start thinking of it.
***************
I was hoping that the restrictions (< 5lbs, no driving, no work) would be lifted soon but it looks like those can only be lifted by my cardiologist. He, unfortunately, is away on vacation until May. I guess this gives me some time to learn a new programming language.
Either way, things are great. Can't wait to see what the next six weeks brings. Hopefully it is driving.
