..That's if you count today.

Well I go under the knife on the the 14th and with a week a way, for some reason I'm not to worried. It's a small nagging at the back of my mind, but other than that I'm feeling all right about it. I will have to say, reading a lot of post as a guest, before signing up last night, helped. it was encouraging to see that everyone is in high spirits after going through with it. I got some helpful hints from skimming all the posts - I should probably do some more reading so I know what to expect. I'll most likely be asking questing for both per and post op and would like to take this time thank everyone.

Hi, I'm glad you decided to introduce yourself. If you have any questions, ask away. It might be a little slower since it is a week end, but I'm sure someone can answer any questions you have. Where will you be having your surgery?

Happy you came out to say Hi and we can say welcome to you.
As Lyn says, we are happy to help with any questions.
Sending you best wishes.

I'm glad you started an account. The surgery is easy, you'll sleep through the whole thing ;)
If you have any questions ask away. I wish I asked more.

Hey JeepnOut,
Welcome aboard. I too found great comfort lurking around this site too when I found out I needed surgery. It was even better when I joined and threw in my 2 cents worth of experience and opinion. Good to hear that you are in the comfort zone about your surgery. I wish you the best and hope everything goes smoothly and uneventful. Stay connected.
Best
John

Thanks everybody. yeah I've been reading some survival style books lately, the Best One fore me was "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell. Best advice I got from that book was, take everything one day/step at time, and not to consume yourself with the long run - not saying not to completely forget about it either. I figure being shot and falling down mountains with out the aid of type of pain killers, is a lot worse than what I have to go through. haha.

Anyhow, my surgery is going to be at UPenn Hospital down in Philadelphia. be with my parents who are down in PA after for a few weeks, then when I'm up to it, head back to CT to finish recovering - have a bunch a friends up here to help with that.

Hello JeepnOut, We both I have surgery on the same day. I will keep you in my prayers. I have to be at the hospital by 5:45 ...surgery at 7:30. It's an hour drive for me. Let me know how you make out.

Blessing, Vinnie

Glad you decided to join us and welcome aboard.

I shall be counting down with you too and will keep you in my prayers and look forward to reading your posts in the "post surgery" forum.

Good luck and prayers.:)

Was in your shoes one month ago. My husband had his surgery on Sept 14. It went great. He is walking 3 miles a day already. We will be sending good vibes and prayers your way. Hang in there.

Welcome aboard JO. Like you many of us have been apprehensive about our condition following surgery. Considering your age, if you are in otherwise good health, you can expect a pretty uneventful recovery as long as you observe the basic guidelines such as the lifting limits. I live alone and never found that I could not care for myself. It was nice having friends come by and once in awhile to give me a ride. You may find that you don't need to stay with your parents nearly as long as you anticipate now. Take care and be sure to let us know how things are going.

Larry

Hey Jeep, these last few days are all about keeping your mind busy during the day, and trying to sleep at night.
Stock up the freezer with good food, get a haircut, pay your bills, lay out some comfy clothing.

My 22 YO son has had most of his heart surgeries at CHOP, right next door and most of his doctors also are on staff at HUP. They are some of the best, which I'm guessing you think so since you are traveling to Philly. We live in NJ, but are pretty much in a Phila suburb in Camden county.
One good difference between OHS and survival, is even tho many people complain about hospital food, it sure beats eating slugs and snakes :) Speaking of food, I don't know if you've spent much time in that area, but there are a few good food trucks right out side from Greek to chinese and really good fruit salads..I was always running out to get Justin (and me) food, even tho CHOP has pretty good food, I don't know about HUP.
Will someone be able to update us before you feel up to posting online?

Jeep and Vinnie,

I'm just 11 weeks recovering from my AVR. The first 4 weeks weren't fun, but they were better than I expected. Now I feel great and feel able to do anything I could before surgery, but I'm supposed to wait a few more weeks before I do. (don't tell my cardiac rehab nurses I've way pushed the envelope)
