Just a shout out to all that have been there and mostly to anyone in the waiting room.
Been 5 months since my avr. All is going very well. In Cedar Saini on Thursday, home on Monday.
Presently I have completeda 16 week rehab very easy, was running on the treadmill the full 20 minutes at over 4 mph.
By the two to 2.5 month mark (when I started rehab) I was walking about 4 miles and doing a large set of stairs about 150.
I feel good, started doing some light upper body weights at the three month mark, snuck in a couple reps before that.
Doing quite a bit in month 4, Played little half court b ball, and took a surf.
Now for the past month been playing full court basketball, and surfing when ever we get a swell.
The purpose of this thread is not to brag about what a stud I am but rather to give all the confidence that it is good to be on the other side and it isn't reallyh that bad.
An inconveinence for a few months, a mere blip on the radar of life, hopefully all will continue as I do more and get stronger.
However I do feel that it is very important to be in shape and stay in shape right up to the day of surgery, I am sure that this made my recovery and re-hab, a reasonable experience.
To Robert that asked about Cedars and Dr. Trento, I was pleased with both, sometimes the night nurses can get lazy, know what you are suppose to be taking and when. Sorry I didn't get back to you, I havent been on the site since the op. Any other questions or concerns email. thx. sfconstrct.
To all in the waiting room focus on how good things will be after, hopefully my experiance will give you some comfort.
Another side note, there was a thread about the dredded clicking noise, personally due to my active lifestyle I went with the latest tissue valve, they say 20 plus who knows, I am also banking on techology that by the time my valve needs replaced they wont be going thru the chest anyway, it's starting to happen now and seems like in the next 10 to 15 years a reasonable expectation, or atleast that is what the surgeons have told me, hope so. If not. Another pleasant suprise is that I have a very small and thin scar, you would have to look for it to see it, hope this helps all. Peace!
P.S. read the threads about Ross, best wishes to Ross.
