Englander

Hi,

Went to the hospital today to have a pre-op assessment. They took my vital signs, some blood, ECG and chest X-ray. Also they explained what will be happening after I am admitted and I even meet with the physiotherapist who is going to see me after the operation for breathing and walking exercises.

I feel a little more at ease after going in today. I had a few questions which they answered.

Keep your chin up!

Keep your chin up!

Hey there. I am praying for you. I am happy to see that you are comfortable and more at ease with your upcoming surgery. The more informed you are, the less there is to be frightened of. These surgeons do this type of surgery all the time, it's like brushing teeth. Stay positive and know that your friends here at this site are thinking about you.
Best of luck.

This is the nervous agitation part. You'll kick up some good arrhythmias this week, if you're prone to them.

Do some things you enjoy, visit someplace you love. Eat well. Hug your loved ones a lot.

You've done what you can do. The next part is up to the doctors now.

Best wishes,

Englander,

I had the same experience, my pre-op visit seemed to calm me down and realize that there were going to be a lot of talented people taking care of me to make sure nothing would go wrong. I felt that same calmness on the morning of surgery. I'm not sure where it came from because I was a nervous nelly up until the pre-op visit, but the nervousness all but went away with the exception of a few butterflies the morning of the surgery. That didn't last long, and once they started the IV and gave me some "happy juice" I didn't have a care in the world. :D Just try to relax these last few days and do some things you enjoy doing. You'll be how surprised how quickly June 8th will get here, and before you know it you'll be on the other side of the mountain.

Sounds like you're in great hands. Take care, spoil yourself over the next few days and we look forward to hearing your post-surgery news.

Englander:

Sounds like a good pre-op program at the hospital.
I'm sending peaceful thoughts your way ... we'll see you on the other side of the mountain. Be sure to wear hiking boots into the OR; helps to keep your feet firmly planted for the hike back down. :)

Hi Englander

Glad that your pre-op visit went well. I have it on Monday, 7th .

I remember telling my surgeon to get a good night sleep. He said he would and also told me I was the only surgery he was doing because he expected it could be lengthy. He also said the ball was now in his court and for me to get a good sleep too. I clock watched most of the night. Not so much from nerves but just didn't feel good. I asked for some Tums for heartburn and ended up with the request going up the chain of command and ending up with an EKG before they gave me some Mylanta. It's funny some of the things you forget.

I hope all goes well for you and you get a wonderful surgical result. I will keep you in my prayers.

I feel you

I feel you

I know how you feel. I too am counting the days down. I am 12 days away from my valve replacement. I found out just a few weeks ago that I also have HOCM. So they will be removing a portion of my heart during my valve replacement. I am so glad they were able to put your mind at ease. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers just remember to keep us posted.

Thank you all for your comments.

Sree, good luck with the pre-op assessments on the 7th and for the op on the 8th.

Hi Englander,
Just wanted to say good luck and that I'll be sending positive thoughts your way on Tuesday. What time is your surgery - morning or afternoon? Hope your wife will let us know how you're doing, I think you'll find a lot of anxious people are here waiting for news when you get back otherwise :) .
Gemma.

Hi everybody,
I was online just over an hour ago and Englander was logged in, apparently typing a reply to this thread. Not sure if it was him, or his wife trying to post a message on his behalf.
Englander (and Mrs Englander :) )- hope everything's OK. I'm keeping you in my thoughts.
Best wishes,
Gemma.
