You will do fine..Christina..Again..I remember NOTHING..from pre-prep..the good feel shot to waking up in a private room..ALL tubes gone. Daughter said..Hi, Mom..want to get up for a walk. I said, sure.:D She brushed my hair..I brushed my teeth and down the hall we went.:D NO tubes..just the monitor on me..nurses said..Hi..I said Hi and kept walking..Home in 5 days. Bonnie

Wow Bonnie!! I want my experience to be JUST like yours!! :)

Did you ask the doctors and nurses to keep you sedated through most of that or is that just how it all happened, because I have thought about asking them to keep me "unaware" of things for as long as possible, as I am the most squeamish person in the world and so is my sister who will be there with me, along with my sig other, Wayne. My parents are both deceased. :(

Thanks to everyone who has reassured me about the taking out of the drainage tubes. I feel better now - until the next fear. Hee.

Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes, hopefully I will be able to get someone to post for me ( I use my work computer) and let you all know how I fared, if not I will drop by the week after I come home and give you an update.

Till Then Take care of yourselves !

Surgery

Surgery

Good luck on your surgery. I had mine at the end of February and the chest tubes were scary at first. I had a morphine pump so we hit the button before taking out the tubes. I was amazed at the size of them. It wasn't that bad. I woke up in ICU without the breathing tube. I guess it was taken out before they let me wake up. The Cardiologist said that you are awake but they give you some kind of medicine that makes you forget. My pacemaker had to stay in for 10 days due a problem with my heart beating too slowly. That was a pinch when they took it out. The direct line around the shoulder area was taken out the day I went home and that didn't really hurt either. The sternum wasn't too bad unless I tried laying down. I was in the hospital where I had the surgery for 11 days and after being home for 6 had to go the local hospital for 4 days. Went out of sinus rythm. The direct line alleviates getting stuck every time they need a blood sample or gave me medicine. It was uncomfortable but not excruciating.
I think it is different for women since they are built different than men. Anybody have any ideas on this?
