Four years ago tomorrow at about 6:30 am I was being towed into surgery for a double valve job and a complete oil change.
I think this had to be one of the best pit stops I could have ever called. I don't expect to get back into the lead lap in any race, however, I AM in a whole lot better condition today and probably able to give the race (life) a real good challenge for some time to come. 30 years of neglect (of the body and lifestyle) did its toll on my body, but I guess my childhood Rheumatic Fever would have caught up with me eventually anyway. I was lucky enough to have been diagnosed before anything too serious happened and have surgery on an elective basis. Funny how easy it is to say "nothing serious!?" While it certainly was a serious event to have my heart removed from my chest and be massaged by the surgeon and then put back, I don't find myself looking back at this as a bad experience.
Hey Hank, congrats to you also, buddy. May I suggest an Anniversary Forum where people like you and me, Gina, Lorraine and Rain and all vr.comr's can fly a banner for a day? I believe we five were April surgery happenings? Strange enough to be in such good company, but to have us all be April surgeries.
Golf league starts tomorrow and next weekend I'm running in "The Swedish Stomp" 5K. This is a fun little event (but there's some serious competitors in it too) near Peoria that my wife and I go to. I run (I actually "WOG," a walk-jog) and she waits for me at the finish line. The race is all on country roads with the sweet smells of the nearby farms that permeate the air. Free food after it's over!
Cheerio! or should I say Fore?!
