Had surgery monday the twenty second, was pushing for release thursday the 25th. My only complaint was shortness of breath, other than that I felt ready to escape, they took me to x ray just prior to setting me free and discovered my right lung was mostly collapsed, likely caused by a nick during surgery Im told. I had a pigtail drain tube installed in my chest cavity to drain air and blood into a little portable breifcase like recepticle I could carry around with me but I still felt short of breath and pain in my chest cavity. This morning the draining stopped and the tube was removed and I felt 100% better instantly, so I was released late this afternoon.
For my first surgery of any kind I didnt know what to expect. It my be awhile before I can objectively evaluate my experience, Im just happy to be alive at this point
Thanks again for all the wisdom and support, It made this jouney easier knowing others had gone before me.

welcome to the other side! sorry to hear about your collapsed lung. it seems like everyone has a little bump in their road to recovery, so let's hope this is the first (and last one!) best wishes for a successful recovery. remember to take it slow and count EVERYTHING as a milestone, and it will make you feel so much better (ex: every "first" that you go through - first post op dish washing, laundry, supermarket visit, plant watering, etc.)

and there will be many others after you. that's when you must give your thoughts to them. They are depending on all members.

Sorry you had a bump but happy to know they have taken care of it. Just rest now, except for your exercises/walking/breathing and you'll be just fine. You did good for a first surgery. Hope you don't have to ever have surgery of any sort from here on out. Blessins....................

Kman,

WELCOME HOME!!!!

Good to see you up and posting again. Thoughts/prayers coming your way for a continued SUCCESSFUL recovery :).

Good Work!

kman, So glad to see your post! Your reporter has done some nice work keeping us posted too. I sense you did a good job raising her! Hopefully the rest of your recovery will be "bump" free. Did they give you a cow bell yet? Brian

Congrats Kman! sorry about the speed bump though. Sounds like you're on the upside now. I also had my AVR surgery on the 22nd and thought I could get out in 3 days - glad I didn't push it. Friday was fine. I feel so much better now that I'm home. The doctor told me that 1 day at home is like 3 in the hospital. We progress that much faster. I have to say m y biggest complaint now is my upper back. I get so stiff from sleeping at night - every morning I wake up feeling like the Hunchback. My pain meds are too strong to take for that - I don't want to sleep all the time. Today I'm gonna try tylenol. Have you started walking yet? My PT guy told me to walk for 3-5 min as often as I feel like it. I did 2 5 min walks yesterday - it felt great to be outside!

Just focus on your recovery now!! Well done!! We are all glad to see you on the other side of the mountain. Congrats!!! You did it!!:)
