I have been walking around every day and doing mostly house walking (lots of short walks around), and a little bit of outside walking. But today I planned a 1 mile walk outside and allotted 30 minutes for it. Wife strapped the baby on and we drove to a nearby area where we like to stroll around. Time flew by and I did not even look at the watch.

About 52 minutes later we were getting in the car to go back home (I ride in the back seat and hide away from danger). I was not very tired and did not even think much about the walk, the time outside was satisfactory, and my only complaint would be the feeling cold. Yes, like most of you post-op, some of the drugs make me feel very cold alot.

I used an iPhone app to track the steps and here is what today looked like: http://runkeeper.com/user/448632934/activity/79025920 Yup, it was 2 miles even and we did it in about 52 minutes, this includes a stop for some coffee. I was craving some, so we got some decaf with whole milk.

I am not bragging by any means, I just wanted to share with my online VR friends and family and say that when you choose activities to help you rehab back, make sure they are fun, with family or friends and always take breaks when you feel a little tired.

This is day 5 post-op for me, at this point I am pretty sure the anestesia wore-off, I feel my whole body (and boy does it hurt), and given that my pain killers are 1 x Tylenol3 every 4 hours, I feel hopeful that this is a a great beginning to a good recovery.

I have a post in making about some things that are not so great, but on here I want to share the things that you helped me achieve and I will keep on trying to do better. Slowly and gradually, we are going to get stronger and healthier.

BRAVO and you SHOULD brag as an inspiration to all

Your ability to walk 2 miles at 5 days post-op is huge. You may be having other issues, but you are so far ahead of schedule on physical recovery, it is amazing.

Wow great job. I tried 1/2 mile the day I got home. Pretty big mistake. Needed a big rest on the way and felt bad later. But always wanted to do more. Was put on a short leash for awhile after that. Type A so had to be held back.

Brag away my friend! Awesome job. And believe me these walks will help alot. Keep at it!

WHAT!!!!! OMG!!!
Well done you!! I can barely remember post op day 5! Never mind doing a 2 mile walk! I struggle to do that now lol
Hats off to you!!!! :D
Love Sarah xxxxxx

Vadim, you may be experiencing one of the most spectacular recoveries ever if you can walk so far so soon. You should probably be on the poster that encourages people to seek surgery before the symptoms start causing one to feel ill. Hearing from people such as you, must leave a lot of people still in the waiting room feeling better about surgery and recovery. Best wishes.

My wife and I are going to walk around outlets and shop a little bit. My goal is 1 hour on my feet slowly moving around and perusing for purposes of shopping therapy for the wife.

I might not have a distance goal or hit some new PR, but 1 hour on my feet will be good. Who knows maybe a bit more ;)

Also, being in pretty good physical shape before hand and being able to squat off the deep sofas without hands and get up off the floor without hands helps a great lot. I'm going to make a post of things and exercises that people can get good at before surgery which will make their life much easier afterwards.

Way to go...you over-achiever (ha ha)!

I've had to shorten my walks and go for speed. My doctor wants me coming home short of breath, and I don't get short of breath during my longer, more leisurely walks. I kept telling them that I don't get short of breath before my legs get sore. He says that's because my heart was still strong before surgery...apparently, stronger than my legs :)

Go Vadim!

At this rate you will be able to move my fridge if the renovations ever get finished!

Thrilled to read all is going very well. But at the expense of sounding a little 'nanna' be careful not to overdo it. Moderation has its place.

All the best. I'll look forward to hearing more about your post surgery journey.

Back in the day they didn't even let us out of the Hosp until 7 days, so at 5 I was still just going up & down the hallway 50 feet.

I'm a little bit behind, but I made 2 miles today! In one walk...I've been doing over 2 miles total, but hadn't done it in one walk yet, so I'm all excited.

Awesome job mom2izzy. Very, very cool. Keep it up and soon we will be walking a 5k (3.12 milers), and then we will speed walk them and they we will jog and eventually in at most 6 month attempt to run them. I am rooting for ya. Post up some other cool physical activities that you are doing. I know house or garden chores do not seem like much of a fitness but walking around house collecting laundry 1 piece at a time or re-arranging some magazine for an hour straight are all worthy mentions this early on in our recoveries ;)

My biggest other physical activity is keeping up with a 3 year old :). Cleaning up the toys after she spends her day destroying the living room always feels like a major accomplishment. I am now picking her up again! I still won't carry her around, but I've been able to pull her up onto my lap and help her out of bed and into the car.

There was a time when taking a shower felt like a major accomplishment too...

And one last silly one...My bladder must be the size of a pea because I get up to pee at least 3 times a night. This wouldn't be a major accomplishment except for the fact that my bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. I go up and down the stairs at least 3 times a night. :)

The best news of all...I start cardiac rehab TODAY! They called to schedule my initial consultation on 4/12. As we were getting off the phone, I said, "if you have any cancellations sooner...". She asked if today at 1:15 was too soon, and I jumped at the chance! I can't wait to get started.
