Yes, I meant over the surgery mountain and on the recovery route!! At age 25 you are young and strong and will breeze through it. My surgeon said that I was young at 66! :)and that the surgery will go well. It did.

Thankyou to everyone for the advice and messages, i think i am a little more calm after reading everyones experiences. i think the only problem now is having two divorced parents in same room, with my girlfriend stuck in the middle perhap i should be more worried about them.
Well i think this will be my last post before my operation as i am not sure what access i will have to the internet wed & thursday morning. So i will give a post op thread as soon as i am capable.
Once again thankyou to everyone and hope to speak to you all in a few days or so.

P.S

I am up north in Middlesbrough, going to james cook hospital.
They have a great unit there with great record, so best place i think.
Not sure of my consultants & surgeon names, but they are both directors of the cardiac units, so good experienced hands.

we divorced parents can behave when our child is hurting and needs us. been where yours are and we both did very well, tho our children were quite nervous, however! just don't let anyone leave them alone together.

GODSPEED!

My first OHS, I was awake when they rolled me into the OR. I had been in CICU for about 4-5 days pre-op on a balloon heart pump until I was able to have the surgery. The tech fellow (a fabulous man) had to go to the OR with me to manage my heart pump and when we got there he asked if I wanted to see the equipment etc while they got me ready or if I'd rather go right out. I opted for the 'less I remember about all this the happier I will be" and don't remember a thing after that. No one said a thing to me after that they just started whatever med into my IV line.

Second surgery, again at Mass General, they rolled me into OR and started putting additional lines etc and I asked "Do I really need to see you do whatever you are doing?" Again..... not a word was said but in the blink of an eye, I was out cold..... just the way I wanted it. :) They are so wonderful about making the patient as comfortable as possible. Can't say enough great things about these outstanding people who give us this help and care.

I have had several surgeries prior to my OHS and going under is a breeze. It happens very quickly and the OR staff is usually very supportive for those few minutes that you are awake in there. You will do great! Sending calming prayers your way. Waiting is by far the hardest part!

Will be thinking and praying for you tomorrow that you have a succcessful surgery and a smooth recovery.

To answer your questions, for me, the surgery time was a very restful sleep with no dreams or any other experiences. All I remember is waving 'see you in five hourse' to my hubby, and then waking up surround by my hubby and family smiling at me! Yes, that simple. There was discomfort, but you overcome it with all the pain medications.

Good luck.:)

My worst fear was the breathing tube. I was so worried that it would be horrible that I would wake just enough to know it was there and start pointing at it. The nurses are keeping such a close eye on you that any movement will get their attention. She kept coming over and telling me "Yes, you have a tube that is helping you to breath", I would go back to sleep, wake up again and start pointing again...:D

Going to sleep didnt bother me as much...had no out of body experiences. I remember only the nurses putting me on the bed that would take me to the OR and being outside my room, talking to them and nothing else until I woke up with that vent tube on my mind and wanted it out...I didn't feel it at all...just knew I wanted it out. Then, my next memory is the thirst....the horrible horrible thirst! Only got ice shavings and I could have downed a gallon of water!

Oh yes, I forgot about how thirsty you get. Ice chips..............they are such a relief at the time. Praying for a successful surgery and recovery.

You may not see this before your surgery tomorrow but just wanted to wish you all the best for a successful surgery and a smooth, bump free recovery! Looking forward to reading your first post when you are on the other side (of the mountain, that is;))! Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Well as you can see this is my operation date, should be under the knife right now, but yesterday evening they discovered a small swelling in my elbow so my surgery has been delayed untill it goes doewn due to possible infection.
So slightly anoyed as i am not getting it done, but thanking that it has been found as it could of caused some major problems after surgery.
So have to go through the waiting process all over again.

I'm sorry to hear thes, I know how frustrating it is to get so close and having it postponed for any reason. I hope your elbow is fine and you don't have to wait to long to get rescedualled.

Sorry to read that your surgery had to be postponed but glad that they are being cautious. Please keep us posted on when it will be and, as Lyn said, hopefully it will not be long.

I have aortic stenosis and an anuerysm

I have aortic stenosis and an anuerysm

I have the same situation and as a christian I have real peace and pray that you will also
One of my favorite versus from the Bibkle is 'Be Anxious for Nothing but in everything pray to God with Thanksgiving and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and mind.In other words instead of worrying fill your mind with prayer and Thanksgiving. Everytime a worry or anxious thought comes to mind replace with a prayer to God and thanking Him for answering your prayer
Put your total trust in Almighty God and in His Son -I recommend that you read your Bible especially the New Testiment -You will be fine and come out stronger and closer to The Lord in the end
I will be praying for you
By the way I have a Daily inspirational message that I can send you -Please let me know if you would like it (Email address removed for user safety)
