Well we did it! We finished the Indy 500 Mini Marathon yesterday!

Not the time I wanted, but still respectable. What a great day it was with 3 generations participating. My mom, two daughters, one of the girl's fiance as well as her college roommate! Of course the oldest daughter and her fiance and roommate finished in record time! The younger daughter, my mom and myself took it easy doing the jog/walk thing. But it was an awesome day, very emotional, and such a blessing to be able to do this as a family and having other family members supporting us along the way.

What a way to celebrate 1 year of recovery!!

The first photo is 3 generations! Mom, me, and younger daughter! Here we are finishing!

The clock time is deceiving since we were in corral Z and it took us 30 minutes to get to the starting line! Nearly 40,000 participants!! And our actual recorded time was 3:20 but our REAL time was 3:08 since we had to make 2 pit stops! :-( My fault dang it!

Congrats...there is a 1/2 marathon here locally every April. Next year I absolutely plan on being in it. Hopefully I will run the whole way but my goal is simply to participate.

Congratulations! One year after surgery and look what you have accomplished. You are an inspiration to all the folks who will make that trek over the mountain.

Lovely pictures!!

Dear Lisa, yea you did it :D Tom has been encourging me to walk a half marthon in Sept. the disneyland one, at this point I don't think I can do it but then again 3 months ago I could only walk up and back on the driveway!! I guess anything is possible! I love your pictures, it is so wonderful to be able to do this with your mom and daughters, some things in life are truly priceless, and this is one of them, I know you'll treasure this event I know I sure would! Take care Debbie :)

Congrats, and I just love the backs of your t-shirts.

Jeff.

I just knew this would be a once in a lifetime thing. I wanted to honor my dad for his surgery as well as celebrate mine! A good friend of mine is a graphic artist and I just happen to order shirts on a regular basis for our staff so I could get a good price. That was my gift to everyone for supporting me all year long.

And I will definitely treasure this weekend like none other! It was what memories are made of. And it sure makes that mountain feel like a mole hill now!!!

Dear Lisa, was the marthon harder than you thought it would be, and how much have you been training to get to this point. Thanks Debbie :)

It wasn't as hard as I expected...and I've done one before so it wasn't my first. And I had trained better this time than the last. Probably a race every weekend except a few since the first of February. But since I had knee surgery in October, too, I really had to take it easier than normal.

The knee held up, BUT, as a lot of runners can attest to, I had an issue with having to go to the bathroom. I know, probably too much information, but those that run regularly will understand it. I had to stop twice! But after the 2nd time, I was fine. But that took a good 12 minutes away from my time. We were actually hoping for 3 hours with the jog/walk thing. But my daughter was getting blisters and we just slowed down because we knew that our mindset was JUST TO FINISH!

Training is the key for that type of distance. Not only does it prepare you from a cardio standpoint, but it prepares your joints, muscles, skin....everything! I've lost toenails before! But I feel good today. Tomorrow will be another story. We'll see how I feel going up and down the stairs of our tri-level house tomorrow! :)

Not every day....but I try to do some form of exercise every day. I have a spin bike at home so if I don't walk or jog, I try to ride for about 30 min. a day. But I have a crazy dog Sally that loves to walk, so I try to walk her for at least a 1/2 hour or more a few times a week, too.

Congrtulations on a great finish! For those of you in the planning mode, we just had a big get together at the Jersey Shore marathon, half marathon and relay. I think there were about 20 of us heart patients, some valvers, some CABG, etc. We are looking for our next get together and woould welcome ideas and many more runners. In the marathon relay, each leg is usually a 5k or 10k.

Let me know if anyone is interested......

Hi Louise, I looked up the run the rock race and it looks like so much fun, have you done it, and has VR sent a team there?? Has VR done a team at any races?? I'm new to all this and would like to learn more. In a team how far does each runner run?? I'm guessing 5 miles with 5 runners? Let me know, thanks Debbie :)

I don't know if VR has sent a team in the past, I'm new to VR myself.

I have not run Whiterock marathon, years ago I ran the 1/2 at Whiterock that is held in November, sort of a prelude race leading to the marathon. I ran Ft Worth Cowtown marathon twice, 10K twice, so my preference would be Whiterock. The crowds and support at all of these events is outstanding.

"The 5-person relay course begins and ends in Victory Park at the American Airlines Center near downtown Dallas and runs to and around White Rock Lake. The 26.2-mile certified course is mostly flat with some rolling hills. Along the way, runners pass through the wooded Turtle Creek area, prestigious Highland Park, around White Rock Lake, through beautiful Lakewood and down the Swiss Avenue historical district."

First runner: 6 miles, second runner, 4 miles, third runner 5 miles, fourth runner 5 miles, fifth runner 6.2

Relay details: http://www.runtherock.com/race_info/relay/index.html

I would be interested in the relay or the 1/2.
