Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

No, went through school playing sports without issue. Got lazy in my 20's after a back injury, still no symptoms. Over the last 4 years I've been exercising regularly, weights, calisthenics, and HIIT cardio, no symptoms.

Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

I was diagnosed with severe stenosis at 12, just turned 34, no surgery.

    Backwards trend in Echo Measurements

This has been my experience almost exactly. I started at 44/78 mean-peak and am now at 21/37. I posted a chart earlier in this thread with everything but the most recent numbers. I have 4+ years of data now and it's a clear linear decrease from one echo to the next. Like you I started taking...

    Backwards trend in Echo Measurements

Fantastic news, my recent TTE results have come in and my gradients have fallen again. I'm now at 21/37 mean-peak. Rapidly approaching mild at this point. We have also decided to go to yearly monitoring at this point instead of twice yearly. I'm incredibly happy with this result and...

Roche Coaguchek XS PT INT STRIPS

From the FDA INR test meters may be prescribed to patients for use in the home, and they may also be used by health care providers at the point of care, such as a health care setting. From CMS The monitor and the home testing must be prescribed by a treating physician as required by 42 CFR...

    Medtronic Freestyle Root Bioprosthesis

Hello, I don't have information on your specific valve but I recalled reading an interesting propensity matched study a while back that you may find helpful. https://www.jtcvs.org/article/S0022-5223(17)31896-2/fulltext Large study with the average age being 43. Reoperation rate in...

Trileaflet mech valve implanted in 10 people now

Very interesting, I'm glad there are people brave enough to drive progress.

    Sprinting?

I started a HIIT routine after being diagnosed with severe AS and severe AR a few years ago. I believe it has been incredibly beneficial, no negative side effects. I was asymptomatic before beginning the routine however, having scored 11 METS on my initial stress test (coming from a...

New member with the usual dilemma

I agree with this, it is ubiquitous in medicine it seems, doctor A says it's x and doctor B says it's definitely not x, or so I've experienced. Yes, I had the same experience, so far the only one I've spoken to who has been willing to even talk about it. To some degree, though I would argue...

New member with the usual dilemma

There are some aspects of mechanical valves I've been curious about. I often come across studies such as https://academic.oup.com/eurheartj/article/38/45/3370/3813125?login=false Which concludes This study demonstrates that outcome after mechanical AVR in non-elderly adults is characterized...

New member with the usual dilemma

I agree with this, and there's abundant research to back up this viewpoint. Interestingly the original description of the Ross procedure technique from Dr. Ross was mostly abandoned during the initial excitement of the procedure. Unsurprisingly the few surgeons who utilized his technique and...

New member with the usual dilemma

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with anyone in the EU. A quick search brought up Maximiliaan L. Notenboom, BSc (Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands), however. I don't think he is currently a surgeon but his name is listed on one of these long term Ross outcome studies...

New member with the usual dilemma

Generally yes, but the surgeons I listed have series with "all comer" patients, meaning pure AR and mixed AS/AR. The surgeons experience, capability, and technique with the Ross is of the utmost importance. It's inherently a more complex technique and that's why I think someone considering the...

New member with the usual dilemma

The Ozaki doesn't have much for long term data, and from what I've seen the data that is available is in older patients. The Ross is interesting, Arnold is often used as the measuring stick but it's important to remember he's about as far from the mean of physicality as possible. In addition he...

50M, severe regurgitation, confused about symptoms?

I agree with your view and have followed much the same path. The first professional I spoke to was a surgeon and he tried to convince me to schedule surgery as soon as possible. A second opinion advocated watch and wait, though I later learned that Cardiologist also believed I was heading to...

Henrik Lundquist (NHL star goalkeeper) story; Aortic valve, root and ascending aorta surgery

He damaged his Ross procedure according to this article https://www.medpagetoday.com/popmedicine/celebritydiagnosis/89475, which is just a written reference to the video. Apparently he got on an exercise bike right after his surgery causing the autograft to fail, who knows what implications...

    Severe Regurgitation and Blood Pressure

When I was diagnosed (well re-diagnosed but that's another story), I began a complete overhaul of my life. Exercise routine, supplementation, and fasting/diet/autophagy. I've written about it here, although I may try to make a really comprehensive post some time including my results in...

    Severe Regurgitation and Blood Pressure

I feel fantastic, I have another thread on here about my very non-standard presentation of BAV and how it's going. I was diagnosed with severe stenosis a few years ago, it's been improving steadily and I am now moderate by gradients and mild by AVA. Similarly my regurgitation has begun to...

    Severe Regurgitation and Blood Pressure

Just had my annual exam with my primary care doctor a few days ago. BP was 110/60, presumably my regurgitation is still severe with a 44% regurgitant fraction.

    Severe Regurgitation and Blood Pressure

I've had severe regurgitation for at least 4 years at this point, probably much longer. Since I started having my blood pressure checked and taking it myself at home it's been pretty perfect at 115 - 120/60-65, no medications.
