19 year anniversary with my bovine valve

Good to hear. I'm coming up on 12 years myself with the same as what you just said. In fact my cardiologist said these valves are lasting a lot longer than they thought.

Ten years ago for my tissue valve.

Ten years ago yesterday, I had my aortic valve replaced with a tissue valve. It's hardly a blip on my radar anymore and still going strong. Very thankful because since then I've celebrated many life events like a grandson. Thank God.

Yesterday marked nine years with my tissue valve. It's hardly a blip on my radar anymore. Still going strong.

    One year later

I had my wife and kids but no other help from family or friends. When you go through something like this you actually realize who your family and friends are. The people that didn't care are now out of my life.

New and Need Advise - Aortic Stenosis

I'll throw my two cents in, the supposed difinitve test for a bicuspid valve is the TEE. That gets right up next to your aortic valve. Second, I've never heard of a calcium test. They will tell a lot by your cholesterol level. Lastly I had an Edwards Tissue Valve at the age of 55. I am now 61. I...

Newbie Freaking Out in S. Louisiana

Hi Wilson, You asked the million dollar question, what type of valve? We've all asked ourselves that same question. It comes down to what you are comfortable with. I would recommend you specifically ask your primary, your cardiologist, and your surgeon what they would do if in your shoes. And...

In shock - 12 great years later, just discovered I need another OHS

Kristine, Sorry you have to go through this again. But I have to say you have all positive things to think about. It sounds like you are in very good health. You get a new valve to start over with and some new piping. I had my AVR at 55 and because I was in good health, I was in and out of...

    Recent BAV Diagnosis

I see antibiotics are mentioned. I am not sure you need to worry about that until you have a new valve. That being said I know a guy who did not take his antibiotics before dental work and got an infection in his new valve and had to have it replaced. So once you do get a new valve, it is...

    Drainage tube removal experience!?

I had terrible back pain while in the hospital. I thought it was just spasms. When they took the tubes out, the pain went away. But it was just a weird sensation when they pulled them out. I was surprised at how long they were.

    5 years ago today!

Can't believe its been 5 years already since my AVR. Saw the doc the other day and he would not order an echo of my heart for the third year because I feel so good. He said it isn't necessary. I can't remember when I even had a palpitation. I have been lazy lately but still run 5K's and lift in...

    Just diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis

I wish I could say welcome Cactus52. Your story resembles so many here. I was early 50's when I got the news of my stenosis. I too was working out, no symptoms, couldn't hardly believe what I was hearing. Even going into surgery, I felt relatively fine. I was going on the advice of the doctors...

I have had palpataions in the past but all seems to have gone away. I just turned 60 in January and my 5 yr anniversay of AVR is coming up in October. I work...

    Possible BAV? Opinions?

A TEE gets a very good picture of your aortic valve. It should tell them if you have a BAV. You will be out so it is easy. I was also born with a BAV and didn't need surgery till I was 55. The one thing I would crecommend if I knew that far in advance was try to watch your cholesterol. Don't...

Severe Aortic Valve Insufficiency & Lifting Weights/working out & many other ?'s

I did not recognize any symptoms when I was diagnosed during a routine physical, when he heard a murmur. That set things in motion for me too. The thing I had was a cold feeling in my chest when I ran, like you would feel during a run when it is cold out. But in my opinion, I just don't get a...
