    mri or cath??

This question is irrelevant since I am having my AVR on June 1. But just curious as to which test is more accurate in determining the valve area. According to the cardiac Cath, the calculated area is .67. According to the cardiac MRI, it is .9. It really makes no difference but just wondering...

Probably surgery this summer...have some stupid questions!!

Well, at least I don't have to worry about that. I went through premature menopause and was done in my mid thirties! But out of curiosity I will check out the threads!

Probably surgery this summer...have some stupid questions!!

MrsBray, I read your response and then cried. Not because of anything you said but because someone I didn't know would take all that time to write me such a thorough and helpful note. I am thankful for you, this forum and all those that took the time to help me. Thanks so much.

Probably surgery this summer...have some stupid questions!!

Thanks everyone. I guess I went in thinking all was ok and I'd see the cardio in 6 months! Oh well!! I will not know if they will have to mess with my aorta until after the heart cath. If they don't have to touch that then he said it would be minimally invasive through my ribs. How long...

Thanks for all the responses. It was weird, I've known this was coming, but I just shut down at that appointment! I did not even know what to ask.

Probably surgery this summer...have some stupid questions!!

I joined this forum a couple years ago but needed to take a break. I was just getting too obsessed with everything and felt it was taking over my life. Anyhow.... i have BAV and my stress echo last fall was not good. Mean gradients are in the severe range. I was put on Beta blockers to try to...

    Measurements vs Symptoms

    Measurements vs Symptoms

GrtDane: I have BAV with stenosis. Thanks to all for the comments. I needed to hear all this. This was good for me. The time is near and I need to get on the wagon and get this behind me. I just might need some additional shoving later!

    Measurements vs Symptoms

I went back to the cardio on June 7th. He is very concerned about my fatigue, dizziness and SOB. I go back in 8 weeks (unless I move it up) and he is going to do another echo and most likely go ahead with the heart cath. and get things rolling. I think he would have started things now but when...

    Toprol XL (Metaprolol) Withdrawal

I was placed on metoprolol a few weeks ago for PVC's and AVC's and just to calm things down. My cardio. said to start with 1/2 a pill ( 25 mg) at bed time since I am small build. I did that for a week then increased to the full 25 mg at bed time. A few days later felt terrible. So tired and...

    Duke or UNC??

Thank you so much. I have decided to go to Duke. I just felt more comfortable knowing they are 7th in the country and have such a volume of surgeries. I will look into Glower or Hughes.

    Duke or UNC??

Day 7 Update - the good, the bad, and the ugly

Doesn't the Irish Spring make you itch more? If so, try some Aveeno oatmeal soap. It is soothing for chicken pox and other skin conditions. Might help with the itching and let you heal without irritating. Sorry, the mom in me came out!! Thanks for the update. New to the forum but reading...

    Random (stupid?) question - aspirin

Well, I tired to post once and never found my post so will try again. Thanks for all this good info. I would like to ask another question. Why do INR levels need to be higher for a mitral valve replacement as compared to a lower INR for the aortic valve replacement? Thanks so much. Hope it...

    BAV and arrhythmia

Thanks for the info. I guess the course of this is so unpredictable and so different for each person. I'll be thinking about you on the 27th!

    BAV and arrhythmia

It is 1.1 cm so I think getting there. Is that right? I find this all so confusing and I am trying to read and learn...but so overwhelming.
